Guest guest
I've found over the years that most people have never heard of durian, but in the short time I've been on this list, I've seen several messages go by. Is there something special about this, ummm, aromatic buckeye on steroids that I'm missing?

Guest guest
nothing more than it is ambrosia to some of us. Shari
Guest guest
I bought a fresh durian a week ago. It's not cracking open yet but it sends out its warm and enticing aroma greeting me every time I come home from outside. Now I see why the woman in the store told me that she just loved to keep a durian in the house. She saz it smells soooo good. Fresh durians seem to smell differently from the frozen ones. Guest guest
> life is different after fresh durian!!!!!!!!!!!! I (and many others) have had " fresh " durian in Seattle and/or Vancouver, BC. It's worth reminding people that, while perhaps better for us, the " fresh " durian that is shipped here has been picked unripe/immature, so is certainly not the same as fresh off the tree. I have enjoyed the fresh durian shipped here, but found that it was not as sweet as the better of the frozen durians. Fresh did not smell as bad, but the frozen, to me, have been consistently sweeter. I'm sure that some day I'll be enjoying some truly fresh ripe durian. Till then, I'll still partake in the occasional frozen (thawed) durian! Jeff
Guest guest
Thanks Jeff. I'll come share your frozen with you. I, too, have found the frozen to be sweeter than the " fresh " I have eaten in Vancouver. Someday, someday.................. Shari

I had considered an all-durian class, where I would share my durian recipes (puddings, pies, ice creams, etc.). I couldn't share them at other classes, that might scare students away! But if it's only durian recipes, only the durian fans (or durian-curious) would show up! The only problem would be to find a venue that would allow it (of course we could collect everyone's ion/ozone air filters and load up the room!) Guest guest
Hey!! Jeff - we have a commercial ozone machine We've used it for some rather unpleasant clean ups we do with our restoration business. Clean ups you don't EVER want to have to do. It would probably knock the smell out, but people can't be in the room with it while it's running, too much of a good thing............sort of like durian. I'm up for the class. I have a great kitchen for doing classes and would love for you to come do one on durian recipes. Annette
