Going raw, the detox cycle, and emotions

There are frequent mentions about how going raw causes (or allows) a detox cycle

and the body ejects all kinds of old garbage. There are lots of stories about

people getting something like a violent flu.

There are other stories about getting fleeting impressions of old events along

with taste sensations and physical symptoms as the body gets rid of the physical

toxins absorbed at the time of that experience.

There are also references to emotional and psychological cleansing that goes

along with all this, but very little is said about it.

Since I had eaten so plain and pure before going raw, I have had very little

physical detox symptoms so far, and was pleased about this part being easy and

validating the quality of my cooked diet I had been eating.

I have been having a rough time this last week with prolonged flashbacks to some

very hard times I had about 30 years ago. Its like trying to swim in very choppy

water to cope with this and daily tasks at the same time, and is really wearing

me out.

I've been on a long project of cleaning out all those old internal closets from

my past, processing the stuff, and letting it go. I was making slow, but steady

progress.

First I thought that maybe I was just getting real good at this and maybe needed

to slow down a little. Then it kept happening more and more, even after I

decided I deserved a break. It started getting so extreme that I was looking for

what was different now, and remembered I went 100% raw about 5 weeks ago.

So I'm wondering if going raw is a coincidence, or if it is contributing to this

deluge of old stuff coming up.

Do any of you have any ideas about all this?

May your day be filled with clarity, grace, progress, and warm laughter,

Roger

Wow Roger, that hit home! I was half wondering if I was emotionally

detoxing. For the past week it's been a roller coaster. Most of the

time I can pin-point the source and deal with it from there, but right

now...no. I am usually a happy and easy going person, but all I want to

do right now is hide. I am also wanting " quiet " (places or states of

being), but like a Chinese finger puzzle the more I pull for " quiet " ,

them louder everything gets.

I finally added going to the gym to my raw life-style, but it seems

that for the past few days that I have been going only speeds up the

emotions strangly enough. They do have a punching bag at the gy...maybe

I need to vent alittle...LOL!

Thanks for this eye-opener :)

Roger,

Anyone making a radical change in the quality of their intake

(nutritional, spiritual, relational, etc.) is going to have some

kind of detoxing experience. Memory is stored in our cells, along

with metabolic waste products. As metabolites get released from fat

and organs such as the liver, they circulate in our bodies.

Sometimes they are able to cross the blood/brain barrier. If a

person has inadequate elimination (primarily sweating, bowel and

bladder, and CO2 via exhalation)they tend to have more severe

symptoms. It's not about how " good " or " pure " you are.

However, it doesn't need to be severe. I guide people through

detoxes every week who are eating a much less healthy diet than you

are. There are many aids such as homeopathy, herbs, and many types

of body work that can make the transition more gentle.

I would be a little concerned about your B12 intake. There still

seems to be a debate about non-animal sources. Animals eat plants

and then make B12; we are not able to do that ourselves. Some types

of seaweed apparently contain it, but it is to this day unknown

whether it is bioavailable to us. Also fermented products such as

tempeh are debatable as to how much you can absorb.

Early signs of B12 deficiency include weakness, fatigue,

restlessness, diarrhea, digestive disturbances, palpitations,

moodiness, apathy, depression, and other emotional symptoms. Read

more in Paul Pitchford's book. Taking a good quality multiple B

vitamin with food is probably not a bad idea if you are adamant

about not consuming any animal or non-live sources such as brewer's

yeast.

May you find the clarity you seek...and if you have trouble there

are many qualified practitioners in Seattle. Even I don't treat

myself when I'm sick. It doesn't mean I'm weak or inadequate or that

I don't trust myself. I know that I have blind spots i can't see. We

all do.

Peace,

Hannah

Roger,

I find when old stuff starts coming up, that I am not eliminating

properly. If you have good elimination you " let go " of the past. If

you hold on to the past, there will be some degree of constipation

present. Sometimes current similar situations and surroundings to

the past can bring up old things from the past, but usually it is

physically based, at least with me.
