Guest guest
Since hemp food products are so highly touted by much of the health food industry for their health benefits, I was considering ordering them until I read the warning at this link: Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein Powder http://store./iherb/organichemp.html Since hemp seems to be one of those emotional issues where both the pro and con factions are distorting the facts I decided it would be difficult to be really certain about how safe hemp is as a food product, both in a practical and legal sense. In light of the fact I'm struggling with health problems and my current rule of thumb is " if in doubt about the healthfulness of a health food, don't eat it " I decided to avoid hemp food products. I'm sharing this so anybody else who had taken the statements about hemp food products " being perfectly safe " at face value will realize there might be different views on this subject, and can look into it if they are concerned. May your day be filled with clarity, grace, progress, and warm laughter, Roger

Guest guest
There IS a warning against this product: " Please Note: The manufacturer indicates that the amount of active ingredients in this product is so low, a few units may have to be consumed to test positive on a drug test. Nevertheless, please do not consume Hemp Seed Oil if your workplace requires periodical drug testing or if you undergo recurrent drug testing. Guest guest
I agree that we each have to do what feels right for us. I personally wouldn't let the " legal " matter stop me from consuming hemp products any more than I'd stop eating poppyseeds for the same reason. However, if I had a job that tested randomly, I may feel differently. Guest guest
Hi to all my Seattle-area friends - I miss you all!! When I think about hemp, I have to think of the fact that it has been cultivated and used extensively around the world, and its cultivation actually preceeds that of soy by about 2,000 years. In Asian cultures, it was made into a tofu-like curd. The fibers have been used for fabric, rope, and paper, among other uses. In fact, the first US flag was made from hemp, and the US Constitution was printed on paper made from hemp. Considering that the level of psychoactive compound is usually barely detectable in hemp, the legality question becomes laughable, and blatantly politically-driven. Our DEA tried to make it illegal, but a high-court ruling early in 2004 declared hemp possession and use to be perfectly legal. Nutritionally, hemp seed is as complete of a protein as soy is, without the estrogen baggage that soy has. The oil contains an excellent omega 3:omega 6 ratio, more similar to that found in human tissue than is that in flax oil. There is a lot of education to be done of the general public that hemp is not marijuana, but is the respectable close relative. I have taken that education on as part of my private practice. I will be offering hemp foods for sale, oftentimes at mainstream professional-level events. Regarding the possibility of a positive drug test as a result of eating hemp products, Manitoba Harvest states that their hemp contains virtually zero THC, and that anybody who eats their products will not fail a drug test. From what I've been reading, there's more THC in chocolate (yes!) than there is in processed hemp. It would be interesting to try a drug test while consuming hemp on a regular basis. I may just do that, I have made the acquaintance of a couple of physicians who work in occupational medicine, and offer employee drug tests. In fact, I might try it and intentionally consume a LOT of hemp preceding the test, just to see what happens. I'm self-employed, so I have nothing to lose. Sue Aberle, MS, RD, LLC Vancouver, WA (that's where my clinic office is) I agree that we each have to do what feels right for us. I personally wouldn't let the " legal " matter stop me from consuming hemp products any more than I'd stop eating poppyseeds for the same reason. However, if I had a job that tested randomly, I may feel differently.
