Guest guest
This is off topic but I just want to announce to the world that I finally got a new bike after talking about getting it for five years, my first new bike ever. I promised myself to get a new bike when I turn 60. Riding bicycle on the Seattle terrain is quite challenging. I'm practicing. Maybe one of these days we can organize a rawfooders' bike trip. Wish Nick is here. I already rode my bike to farmers' market at Lake Forest Park and bought some fruit there. I only bought a little and carried the food home in my backpack. Jeff, how do you carry grocery on your bike? BTW, I have turned 60. I don't wear reading glasses. I heard from more than one friend that their voice range lowered as they get older. I can still scream a high C. I just participated in the Northwest Mahler Music Festival. We performed in Meany Hall last Tuesday. I sang as first soprano. I think the diet has something to do with my eye sight and suppleness of vocal chord. Helen
Guest guest
Helen, Let me be the first to congratulate you. I wish I could be there too! On the other hand if you could be here instead you'd never think Seattle hills were any big thing compared to the ones in WV :-) Just ask Jeff, he was here to visit last year. I ride my bike to the market here too. When I ride a " normal " bike I carry groceries in a backpack. Otherwise I have panniers (bags) that hook on to the luggage rack and can carry about 2 bags of groceries. BTW, last night I started building a new bike of my own design that will be enclosed for all-weather riding and have enclosed storage for groceries. When I get it finished I'll send pictures. In Europe these vehicles are available commercially - here's a link showing the different models available: http://velomobiles.net Here's a link showing one that I got to ride at a rally last month: http://www.velomobiling.net Last weekend I was in Minneapolis for my neice's wedding and I got the VIP bike tour from internet friends. This is one INCREDIBLY bikeable city! They have a 4-lane expressway just for bikes that crosses the whole St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area called the Greenway. There is a separate walking path next to it, no hills to speak of and a raw food restaurant called the Ecopolitan not far from the trail. Many other beautiful bike trails too. Love, peace and human powered vehicles!
