Guest guest
Hi Anthony, Right now I'm just soaking almonds, and occasionally brazil nuts, in some wide shallow Pyrex dishes that have water tight snap on covers I use when I put them in the refrigerator after soaking. The dishes are about 7 inches wide and 3 inches tall and I got them at Fred Meyer. The shallower dish gets more oxygen to the nuts when they are soaking in water than a narrower and deeper bowl would. I used ceramic plates to cover the dishes in the refrigerator for the first several months until I couldn't smell a plastic smell from the lids. Since the lids don't touch the nuts, they are pretty safe, and water tight covers are very useful. The plasticizers in plastic are pretty reactive with the oils in nuts and seeds, so I feel its important to store them in glass, and especially important to soak the oily ones in glass. Both Madison Market and PCC in Fremont have 1/2 and 1 gallon glass storage jars at pretty reasonable prices. The last time I looked for sprouting accessories www.sproutpeople.com had the best selection. They are located in Poulsbo, so shipping is fast and cheap to Seattle. However most of their seed varieties are only in mixes. They have by far the most extensive and detailed information on everything related to sprouting, so I usually start at that web site when considering doing additional sprouting. For sprouting seeds not in mixes, besides www.sprouthouse.com there is www.sprouting.com (Mumm's Sprouting Seeds) however they are located in north central Saskatchewan and the border crossing increases shipping time and costs. Since there aren't many sources of sprouting seeds with a wide selection, they are still worth checking out. May your day be filled with clarity, grace, progress, and warm laughter, Roger - " Anthony D'Atri " <aad <RawSeattle > Friday, August 05, 2005 1:15 AM [RawSeattle] black sunflower seeds for sprouting > http://www.sprouthouse.com/seeds1.htm#Baby%20Black%20Sunflower > > What sorts of devices do folks use for sprouting? I've got some great ones already http://www.dreamsnake.net/ids/image%2dcache/Food/IMG%5f1490% 5fdisp640.jpg http://www.dreamsnake.net/ids/image%2dcache/Food/IMG%5f2350% 5fdisp640.jpg I've seen sproutpeople's web site but hadn't realized that they were in Poulsbo. I've been thinking of the Sproutmaster trays, but I don't like that they aren't dishwasher-safe. The EasyGreen automatic unit has a certain appeal, but it is kinda expensive. Anyone here personally acquainted with it? http://www.easygreen.com/
