Guest guest
Hi All, I'm trying to gain as much information as possible to sucessfully achieve a raw food lifestyle. I have been on an off raw foods for the past 4 months. I've been able to stay raw for 2 to 3 weeks and then I fall off the " raw wagon " . I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Either through the internet, reading books on the subject, talking to people, support groups, potlucks and posting flyers (in my area - New Hampshire) looking for others who are raw or want to be raw. I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences. Below are some questions - feel free to answer any or all of the questions. For those who want to share privately you can respond directly to my email accountl or bdfoye I'm wondering what started you on the raw journey? Was it physical issues or just to achieve better health in general? How did you first hear about raw foods? When you took the steps to change your eating how did you do it? Did you start out slowly or did you jump right into eating raw? Did you fall off the wagon? If so, was it more than once? How did you get back on and try again? Was it any special reason that motivated you to get back on? A health issue? Did emotional issues ever get in the way of you staying raw? How did you deal with issues other than eating? Do you have any favorite authors on raw? Books that you used as guidelines? What/Who do you use for your support system? Once again I appreciate to those of you for taking time out of your day to answer any or all of these questions. Barb
Guest guest
The book that helped me the most was 12 Steps to Raw Foods by Victoria Boutenko. You can read more about her and her family and buy her book from www.rawfamily.com I am only successful on raw when I am committed to being 100%. You just can't allow the concept of eating cooked food to enter your consciousness. Knowing that it's just not an option helps me to perceive eating raw from a whole different perspective. Then I don't have to fight it with willpower or resist it. Kind of reminds me of giving birth naturally. Grantly Dick Read, the reviver of the natural childbirth movement stressed that resisting the pain of birth will only make it hurt more -- it's best to relax and just let it flow knowing, trusting, that it can be done. Guest guest
Barb, I've been going on and off a raw diet(for lack of a better word) for a few months as well. For the most part, I love it! Everything I eat gives me a body high. Or rather I can feel the nourishment from all of my food. I saw a friend after a very long time of not seeing her and she had dropped like 20lbs and her eyes sparkled like I had never seen. I asked her what she had been doing and she said she went raw. So I tried it out. The first time I fell off the wagon was because I got busy, didn't make time to prepare, and didn't have very good appliances (no dehydrator or blender, or space) and got hungry and ate cooked food. Recently, for about a month I was for the most part raw again and having a great time preparing food and coming up with different recipes that were cariations of recipes from some great cookbooks I got. This sounds a bit cheezy but I really like the Uncook Book by Juliano and perhaps even more cheezy Raw Food Real World by Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis. They own a raw restaurant in LA. The recipes are colorful and very fun! I have gone off raw food for the fall/winter. Talking with my yoga mentor(I'm in yoga teacher training for the next 7 months) I have chosen to eat warm food to heat up my body as it tends to be cold and damp in its afflictions. I love eating raw food only! Love it Love it Love it and maybe if it weren't getting really cold here I would continue to stay with the diet. I think I shall pick it up again in the spring. Hope this answers some of your questions. Namaste. Emily Iverson
Guest guest
Thanks Emily I appreciate what you have to say. I just ordered Victoria Boutenko's videos and I'm hoping by viewing/listening to her I will be more informed and inspired. I'm not aware of the book Raw Food Real - I will look into it. The book I am thinking of is Raw Food Real World, that may be the samd book but I thought their restaurant is in NY. It's a hardcover and the imagery is awesome. I love the cover the glow. Thank you for taking the time to write. Barb --- Emily Iverson <emilyiverson wrote: > Barb, > I've been going on and off a raw diet(for lack of a > better word) for a few months as well. Guest guest
Barb and all, I want to quote from Victoria Boutenko's book, Raw Family, pgs. 22-23. " When you are 99% raw, this last 1% will keep the body calling for more addictive substance....On the other hand eliminating the last 1% makes the biggest difference. " And from pg. 32, " Considering all this, I want to warn you. Don't become a raw fooder until you are absolutely ready for it. Maybe some of you are very excited and are ready to throw away pots and pans and to cover your stove.....Sleep with this idea, get enough information. Be very careful. You are not just changing your wardrobe; you are changing your whole life. " I would also suggest reading chapter 3 from 12 Steps to Raw Foods, pg. 17, " The Law of Vital Adjustment " . " Giving up the last 1% of cooked food in the diet is closing the door on cooked food all together. When we close the door on cooked food we close the door on temptation. " I believe we need to set our minds to eating all raw. Get a journal and write down our thoughts, etc.. And set that starting date and stick to it. Good Luck!
