Guest guest
Hi Shakti, I'd love to hear a recipe. I never knew what to do with them, so I never bought any. Guest guest
Thanks Judy and Shakti, I am in South Texas (no raw foodists for 500 miles-Dallas; why I joined your group!) and nopalitos are plentiful here. The South Texan natives fry them and I think mix them with eggs, meat...not an option. I recently have been putting them in my salads and yes, have noticed a difference in the 'cleansing of the intestines/colon'! Yes, I would like a little recipe. Thanks. -e- Shakti S Parvati <ganeshagirlom RawSeattle Saturday, June 10, 2006 1:17:08 AM [RawSeattle] Re: Cactus Leaves - Nopalitos hi eva, i know they are really yummy; love 'em and can share a lil recipe if ya like. also i hear they are particular good for cleansing the intestines/colon; and very gently so. om~ shakti RawSeattle@gro ups.com, Eva Caballero <gwoman30@.. .> wrote: > > Nopalitos are what they are called in Spanish. Yes, I would > like a little recipe. Thanks. -e- I don't know if it would be the same for the cactus leaves, but when consuming aloe vera it is best, after removing the skin, to rinse the " slimy " substance off of the fleshy part. Apparently, it is that outer layer that causes the " cleansing " action in the intestines. Jeff
Guest guest
From " Ask the Dietician " at http://www.dietitian.com/general.html Q: I have been looking for nutritional information regarding cactus (nopales/nopalitos). In particular, I am looking for fat and protein breakdown of this food and whether this is a healthy addition to a vegetarian diet. A: I checked my nutrition analysis software which contains 4 cactus including nopal. One cup of cactus contains 61 calories, 1-gram protein, less than 1 gram fat and 14 grams of carbohydrate. This same serving provides 15% vitamin C and 24% magnesium with only 10% fat. Other vitamins are negligible. Cactus appears nutritionally like a fruit because of its nutritional content and would be a healthy addition to a vegetarian diet. The only problem you may have is finding a grocery store that carries it. Copied by Ron RawSeattle , Eva Caballero <gwoman30 wrote: > > Nopalitos are what they are called in Spanish.
