I am from Long Island, NY but found your group online while

investigating raw foods.

I need some encouragement. I am a busy teacher with two young dogs -

I am on the go all the time! I have little time to cook and prepare

complicated recipes but I really want to go raw. Do you think it is

possible? Any good books I should read?

Thanks so much. Summer here on LI is a good time because there are

lots of wonderful fresh, organic fruits and veggies available.

Susan,

Welcome to the list! Probably the simplest meals are salads and fruits.

They don't need to be complicated... even just a meal of celery may hit

the spot sometimes. You may find Victoria Boutenko's book, " Green for

Life " , interesting. Her green smoothies offer a balance of greens and

fruits. They are also fairly easy to make and don't take much time

(though it does help to have a powerful blender like a Vita-Mix).

Incorporating the green smoothies into your diet may help you go/stay

raw. As I tend to not use recipe books, I can't offer other suggestions

for books with quick/simple recipes, though you might want to look into

Bryan Au's book, " Raw in Ten " (http://www.rawinten.com/)

Jeff

PS: It's definitely possible! It's just a matter of committing to and

learning new routines.

Hi Susan,

It is definitely possible to be raw without spending

lots of time preparing food. You don't have to do any

recipes if you don't want to. Many fruits and even

some veggies are perfectly delicious all on their own.

It doesn't take long at all to cut up some fruit or

make a salad. You should go for it!

How did you first hear about raw food? I'm always

curious how people first hear about it.

Best to you!!

Read the FAQs on Doug Graham's site www.foodnsport.com

<http://www.foodnsport.com/> , then read his book The 80/20 Diet which will

be coming out next month.

Sorry, the title will actually be The 80/10/10 Diet or something similar.

Many of the fruits can be eaten " as is, " but I like it that Whole Foods does

cut up melon, kiwi, pineapple, and mango into bite sizes and packages

them, making it quick when you are on the go. You can also prepare

enough guacamole to last a few days using raw ingredients. Adding a little

lemon juice will prevent the avocado from losing its color.
