I have a K-Tec, which costs around what a Vitamix does but with a carafe that I find easier to use and clean. I would have been delighted to pay less for mine, but I'm also delighted that I'm not burning out a $50 blender once a month, that my blender is capable of making a smoothie out of frozen fruit and water in 20 seconds, that it's capable of grinding flax seed pretty much instantly, and that I have a variety of pre-programmed cycles so I can load it up, push the button, and let it work while I do something else. I've wasted far too much karma over the years on stuff that doesn't work well or long. YMMV. I think Cuisinart makes some that are priced in between, but I can't comment on their quality or utility. If you're local, you're welcome to check out my K-Tec. It came from www.discountjuicers.com
Guest guest
Ya - like Anthony said. It's like buying a Lamborghini instead of a beater blender Monika panantukan23 writes: > Why is everyone so gung ho about the Vitamix blender? 400 dollars for > a blender is outrageous. Guest guest
The Vitamix blender is close to indestructable and does everyting you might ask of it. It's a professional quality unit for home use. In addition to liquifying anything, it will make nut butters and grind grains (with the right container). I use it way more than my processor, at least once or twice a day. If you are making green smoothies, it does a perfect job. I used to own an old Vitamix that looked like the old chrome toaster with a blender mounted on top. I lost it during a move and missed it enough to buy one of the new ones. I got mine at a promotion at the Evergreen State Fair, but I've also seen them demo-ed at Costco. And of course ebay, you can get old ones and new ones. The old ones are cheaper and are generaly good for a long time, although you never know if it might have been abused. They're REALLY hard to break, unless you are trying to grind rocks into sand or something... Richard -
Guest guest
Good evening, I'd guess it's the " more power " thing. Since going raw I've been using the old Osterizer we got 23 years ago as a wedding present. I rarely use it anymore, but it did pretty regular juicings when I first went raw. It helped that I was only doing it for myself. I also found some tricks to being gentle with it. I've found these at garage sales for $5. You can also make a pedal-powered version like this... http://www.bike-pgh.org/ Nick - panantukan23 RawSeattle Tuesday, June 20, 2006 6:50 PM [RawSeattle] Blenders and Dehydrators Why is everyone so gung ho about the Vitamix blender? 400 dollars for a blender is outrageous. Guest guest
I found an older vitamix on Craigslist for $95 that I got for my aunt. I'll have to ask her how it's working. I LOVE my vitamix. I use it every morning for green smoothies. And I LOVE green smoothies. I tried to use a regular blender twice, with much frustration, to make my smoothies. That old thing is now at the Last White Elephant thrift store. Perhaps the love for the vitamix can only truly be known once you actually use one. There's a reason why they make a special vitamix backpack so that you can take your beloved vitamix wherever you may go: http://www.vitamix.com/household/products/vitabag/index.html Oh yeah, I'm thinking about getting one.
