Guest guest
Hi all, I bought some nectarines at PCC a couple days ago and was astonished at the difference in quality from the ones I've been getting in Eastern Washington. Perhaps it's getting to the end of the LaPierre (PCC grower) season but the fruit is noticeably over-refrigerated. PCC is still charging $3/lb., while the ones I'll be bringing back are $1.25/lb. I like my fruit at room temperature but it's interesting to note that these can be eaten directly from refrigeration without the normal 2-3 day ripening period, because they are allowed to ripen on the tree. The peaches are called " Red Princess " and are red, tender skinned, golden fleshed, fuzzless, very juicy and sweet. I haven't eaten many in recent years because I gave up on them but these are the best I've had since I picked peaches directly from the tree as a child. The seeded watermelons are spectacular too, and a great deal at $5 each. They are large (20+ pounds), which means the price is less than 25 cents per pound. I still have room for more orders. I'll be leaving Saturday morning so please email privately or call 425.802.0165. Fruity smiles, Nora
Guest guest
Nora, I only wish I could be there to take advantage of your generosity. Have a good trip. (On the other hand, I've been told I'm only a day's drive from some amazing tropical produce in Florida.) Guest guest
Hi Nora, I actually live in Eastern Washington. I do enjoy our growing climate. If you can find a place to pick your own you do even better on price. There is a website call www.pickyourown.org that you can search from state and locality. Remember I think there is a raw refridgerator jam recipe about. Hmmmmmmmmm never thought about transporting our fruit over to the west and also getting to see my friends on the coast. Guest guest
Hi Bob, Thanks for the link. I've found it difficult to find " u-pick " farms, especially organic. It seems fewer farms are doing that these days, because of liability issues I assume. Do you know of any organic u-pick farms in E. Wash.?
