After reading and learning more about raw food, I am hoping to

transition my family to 100% raw. I thought my husband would be the

obstacle because he loves his meat, etc, but he is feeling so unhealthy

he is practically bagging me to change our diets a.s.a.p. We seem to

be addicted to the bad food so I want our kitchen at home to be 100%.

The problem is that I have 2 boys 19months and 4.5 years - my older

son eats raw fruit, but I have a hard time with the greens (esp raw).

Does anyone have success stories after transitioning or any

recommendations? I have tried green power in shakes, but he doesn't

like it. My older son also asks for all these empty carbs (crackers,

pasta, etc...)

Also, my older son will get a snack at school and I am sure its going

to be off of our diet. I am thinking about allowing it and just

hoping that when he grows up he can make good chooses.

There are some good raw snack bars out there. Hopefully the bars by

Smart Monkey Foods (Portland, OR) will be here soon.

Regarding greens, they are certainly important. I have heard of some

parents having success with romaine lettuce juice. The kids wouldn't

touch other things, but loved the fresh organic romaine juice. Try

giving that a try. Of course, whole foods are vital, but the juice may

help with the transition. Romaine salads may also be a good way of

transitioning the kids. The milder greens, including green and red leaf

lettuces should be more appealing to children than foods like kale.

Good luck!

I have found green smoothies to be a HUGE hit with 3 out of 3 kids I

offered it to.

Go to this link:

http://www.eat-sprouts.com/blend/green.html

About half way down the page is a bulletted list of simple recipes.

Good for you for committing to getting the junk out of your house.

I'm not good at avoiding it out in the world, but I keep my own home

raw and organic and it's made a tremendous difference to my mental and

physical health in only a few months.

Hi... I highly recommend green smoothies. Type in the search engine.. Ode

to green smoothie, by Victoria Boutenko. It will pull up a site that will

give you great information about getting greens into your children and

yourself. You can also order dvd's from her website. It is

www.rawfamily.com. There are some really good recipes on the Ode to green

smoothies site. My family drinks a quart of green smoothies each every

day. My grandaughter... 12 months old.. drinks green smoothies in her

bottle. At least 3-4 bottles a day! She is the healthiest baby I have

ever known!
