Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'll be going to Eastern Washington again next weekend, this time to get grapes. I've found a small farm that grows Manukkahs (small, sweet, dark purple, seedless) and Thompson seedless. They are organic but not certified, because the farm is too small to jump through all the hoops. I'm not sure about the price but it will be very reasonable. Last year these grapes were excellent, as good or better than the biodynamic ones Whole Foods has been selling for $4.99/lb. I just wanted to get some idea how many people might be interested in buying. I'll most likely be making two trips, one next weekend (Sept. 30th) and then again in Mid-October when the season peaks. I think to preserve my sanity this time I'm going to require minimum orders, probably 1/2 box (15-20 pounds) but I'll confirm that later. Please write to me privately if you have questions or want to order. Nora
Guest guest
I am going to ask a really cheeky question. I hope there is some trusting soul out there that would help us out. My Vitamix went on the fritz. I have a granddaughter who drinks green smoothies everyday. My daughter and I live off them too. We are sending the Vitamix into the company to get it fixed. It is still under warranty. It will take about two weeks to get it back. Would anyone consider letting us borrow their Vitamix for that two weeks? I would pay rent. I say this with a smile because I know it is weird, but I am desperate, Ok. I have been 95% raw for a month now and I don't want to break my momentum and the Vitamix makes it possible for us to stay happily raw. Any good samaritans out there? > > -- You can't look at the sun and keep your sight. But you can look at its reflection on the moon. Guest guest
I don't have a Vita-Mix to offer you (I just bought my own and I need it), but I would like to hear about your experience with green smoothies: how much you drink, what you like, what your daughter and granddaughter like. I'd like to get my daughters to drink more of them. Guest guest
Mark - I've been drinking green smoothies as well. My favorite is cantalope and spinach. Yes, the dreaded spinach. It tastes like a vanilla shake, to me. Half a cant (seeds removed) and half a bunch of spinach. I've also been using watermelon as I got five of the best watermelon from Nora. I eat half and green smoothie the other half. Will last me exactly this week and then no more. Boo hoo. They are really good melons. Guest guest
> Half a cant (seeds removed) and half a bunch of spinach. Shari, Do you ever include the seeds in your smoothies? The Vita-Mix breaks them right down! Jeff
Guest guest
Suggestion, It comes in handy to have a cheap blender as well for making smaller amounts of things, so just a suggestion to pick one up at Fred Myer. I make all my smoothies in a cheap blender when staying in Seattle. At my home in Goldbar I use a higher powered blender I got at Costco that seems about as good as my vitamix although it is slightly smaller. (But alas all of mine get used every week!) Good Luck! Guest guest
Jeff - only from watermelon. Cantalope seeds are too pokey for me, even with the VitaMix. Shari

Guest guest
My daughter and I drink two quarts of green smoothies a day. My granddaughter, who is 13 months, has about a quart or more a day. I use about 6 pieces of fruit and fill the blender up with greens and ice. As much greens as I can get in the blender. One combination of fruit would be 4 bananas and two pears, 1 cup of orange juice and kale and ice. Another might be 4 apples 2 bananas and romaine lettuce, orange juice and ice. You should rotate your greens as there is a specific alkaloid in greens that are in such a small amount that it is like homeopathy and just makes you stronger, but large amounts of the same alkaloid could cause you some troubles. I rotate, kale, spinach, chard, weeds, romaine, green leaf, collard greens, arugula, sunflower greens, parsley, carrot greens, beet greens and celery. There are more, but I seem to use mostly these right now. A good website to look at is named, Ode to green smoothie. Another is www.rawfamily.com. Good health ... Guest guest
Thanks so much for your offer. What a nice person you are! I would be so afraid of breaking your machine as I would need a high powered machine to handle the amount of blending of greens and fruits. It looks like I am going to have to send the bloody thing in and go without it for two weeks. Oh well. I am sure I will get back on track when it comes back. Guest guest
Apparently not. And according to Victoria Boutenko greens are in a category all their own, not fruit and not veg. They are rather neutral. I do not add anything else, however. The thing about eating melons with anything else is only for our comfort. I do not suffer if I mix melon with greens and sometimes I can get away with mixing it with other fruit and I don't suffer from any intestinal problems. Guest guest
Yes, they are. More nutritious than the rest of the carrot, some say. Guest guest
I asked for carrot tops at the organic farm that I go to. They give them to me free. Also two farms have showed me some edible weeds and I just go get them. They usually give them to me. I haven't found edible weeds in the stores.
