Guest guest
Where do you live? I get mine at the Everett Oriental Store on Everett Mall Way. I know there are folks in Seattle that shop in the International District east of downtown. Shari
Guest guest
bewarned ! durian is a hardcore addictive fruit. once you have a good one youll be compelled to travel to south east asia, particulary penang and east thailand during may june and attend one of the various durian rehab clinics they have for junkees like myself. these clinics involve paying 1$ US for durians from 1 pound to 15 pounds. depends where you are. sometimes they feel sorry for you and give em to you. accomodation starts at 4$ US. 1 hour sports thai massage is 4$ US an hour. one place i stayed at in penang had all you can eat organic durian and a bed for 2$US night. i did a lot of rehab there! lol! i love sitting under the bug net and watching the thunder crack over the horizon and hearing a durian fall every 30 minutes. then wake up and pick lunch or dinner off the ground. ground ripened durian that you pick yourself and eat near the tree( under is dangrerous!) is truly amazing. how you know youve had a good durian? when you have to sit down cos the endorphin rush is about to blow your medulla right off! ive met durian gurus in thailand that had some good durian, then i showed em 'pumanee' variety. a small orange flesh type from a village in east thailand. they flipped! and after a week of absence got pumanee witwithdrawal syndrome. otherwise known as pws! ok im off to pick persimmons and chinese mulberries and lay in the sun. lifes about doing only what you want to do...RawSeattle , welltrainedmonkey wrote: > > HI all, > > OK, I've now heard a couple of rawfoodists extolling the virtue of > " durian " . Guest guest
i remember i asked an asian shop worker about if they irradiate the durians. he said " NO! " then i asked him " you even know what irradiate means? " he said " NO! " so for me frozen is no go. but i will sample a bit to give someone my score out of 10. the best frozen durian ive had is like a 2.5 out of 10 compared to the ground ripen, squirel selected water god variety grown in penangs durian mountains. where the roads are covered in nets to protect people from falling durians...TRUTH! i cant get my head around the fact that some people go thru their whole life and never have a fresh durian.. i had to spend 3 months cycling around thailand and malaysia to shake the durian fever. such was my addiction. Guest guest
It looks like I need to post this very very important information again... On the topic of addiction to durian, there actually are dangers associated with durian and the over-consumption of it: http://www.soystache.com/durianhead.htm
