Guest guest
Does someone know why protein and carbohydrates/sugar are not digested well? One of my friends eats vegan food and 80% raw for about 17 months now. Is there anything else, other than digestive enzymes, that will help with this problem? Thank you! Guest guest
One simple thing to help with digestion is to just chew very well. Even raw foodists may have a " bad " habit of gulping some foods. It is possible to complete 40-60% of digestion in the mouth depending on whether it is a carbohydrate or protein, etc. (don't recall which was which). When the foods are not physically broken down in the mouth and saliva doesn't have a chance to begin the digestion process, then the burden goes to the rest of the digestive system. Guest guest
frequently its HCL in the stomach not breaking down the cellulase walls of plants. Also, Jeff, its salivary amylase in chewing, so primarily carb digestion starts there. MANY livefoodists are deficient in HCL and I recommend 15 minutes before a meal for HCL (I use Wachter's 26) - especially if undigested greens are noticed in the stool. Celery juice also helps to correct HCL deficiencies. Guest guest
Hi Christina, Listen to Jeff. Especially with smoothies and juices. Many people gulp them down like water when they are actually food that needs to be chewed and mixed thoroughly with saliva to start the digestive process. Also, simplifying how you are eating can dramatically improve digestion. Eating fewer combinations at each meal and striving towards an ideal of mono eating (eating only one type of food per meal) will make the job of digestion much easier on your body and digestion should improve. Guest guest
Christina, I agree with Audrey. Also, going longer between meals and not eating in the morning will allow your body to heal quicker. The digestive tract heals itself when it's given rest.
