Guest guest
Scott, I don't buy nuts in any quantity anymore, so I'm not up on such things. I suggest that you write to or call (better, I think) any organic almond GROWER (i.e., the actual farmer, not a distributor or other reseller) and just ask them. Many will sell in the shell upon request and during harvest time (which I believe is still going on), even if they don't advertise. I don't know what's available in your part of the country. I have looked high and low at local stores, and online, and have not had any luck. So yes, there is always some damage, but as a matter of degree, fairly minimal. If you buy the almonds in the shell, there is an added measure of protection. Nuts and seeds in this state are, in general, designed to survive through many of Nature's challenges (weather and otherwise).
