Guest guest
OHMY! i can eat a whole can of black olives in one sitting without even knowing it. My family jokes at family gatherings that there may be nothing else to eat but if I have olives (basically any type but black are my fasves) and pickles (especially kosher dills and sweet pickles) I will be a happy girl. ~Mel --- Amy <sandpiperhiker wrote: > > Don't we have an olive crew in here? Yeah, whenever we have a family get-together, there has to be a dish of olives (usually the green ones, but I like most all of them)... and usually the dish is empty from all the walk-by snags before dinner is even on the table! Guest guest
I'd be interested to know about the olives too. I always thought that they were raw when packed in brine..... Annie
Guest guest
Olives. Brine = salt and vinegar. Neither necessarily sea salt nor unfiltered vinegar, though they could be in the case of olives being prepared for the RFCommunity. PERSONAL NOTE: I no longer use either salt nor vinegars - even the healthier versions, on my journey toward health I have learned that they aren't among the healthiest choices. (please remember that you get to make your own choice on that one) Occasionally you can find olives prepared in only water - that would be a healthier choice than brine if you should choose to eat them (which I would on a special occasion, cause I love olives) Olives also, as a fruit, have 70-80% fat content, which is similar to that of an avocado. I watch all fat content as I have learned that the fat intake in life is the more dangerous-less healthy of choices within our diets. I'm of the opinion that limiting our/my fat intake to about 10% of my caloric intake is healthier... Take what you need and leave the rest. Guest guest
O.K., I'm almost apprehensive to ask this question because I LOVE OLIVES so much.I have found raw olives at the health food store near my house. And I am enjoying them immensely. My question is, for veteran raw foodists, are olives in your diet in any way? If not, why not? Is there something I need to consider before I immerse myself any deeper in this seemingly perfect edible? Thanks.~Collage~ Brotha.Deep is bringing that funk back to the eclectic vibe of JAZZ… Activists Sentenced Like Thieves is pure, unadulterated INSPIRATION. Guest guest
Raw olives are WAY better than the refined processed olive oil that many raw fooders consume. So, I say, go ahead and enjoy the olives :-) Some recommend rinsing them to get off the extra salt.
