It's a good question. Thereare superbugs all over and the problem continues to increase. MRSA isone of the superbugs. These days, according to the World HealthOrganization, a new superbug is appearing every year now. Now we areworried about H5N1 avian influenza and drug resistant TB. So the bestthing to do is take good care of your own health so you are notsusceptible to getting these infections. The most important things youcan do are keep your immune system strong with a healthy lifestyle -good nutrition, lots of good water, good fresh air, enough rest, exercise, sunshine, moderation in everything, and I believe, trust inGod. Good hygiene including washing your hands is important. Washinghands should be not just rinsing them under water - you need to washwell, with soap, including under the nails, at least for 30 seconds. YLmeleleuca geranium soap would be good to bathe with. I would keep abottle of the new Thieves waterless hand purifier with me at all times.Research shows MRSA and other bacteria and viruses can be cultured notjust from the infected patient, but also from doorknobs, elevatorbuttons, bedclothes, doctors ties, stethoscopes, sinks including theknobs you use to turn off the water after you've washed your hands (usea paper towel to turn off the water), even on the walls in roomsincluding OR's.MRSA started in hospitals especially with people who were moresusceptible to infections due to weakened immune systems, but has spreadbecause of indiscriminate overuse of antibiotics, antibacterial soapsand cleaners, and with inadequate infection control precautions. Mostlyunwashed hands. Some people can carry an infection around in their nosewithout having any symptoms. Now there are epidemics in prisons, football teams and so on. Since antibiotics don't work it just keepscausing problems.Fortunately essential oils have been shown to have activity against MRSAin lab research and in a number of clinical cases. Many oils orcombinations of oils may work, among them tea tree, clove, mt savory, lemon , oregano, thyme, euc radiata, even lavender and more. Thievesshould be good. I have used combinations of oils topically or internallydepending on the individual circumstances when asked to see someone whohas failed all the standard treatment. or when someone has refusedantibiotics. We need to spread the word about the research evidence thatis already available and do more high quality research so that use ofessential oils for treatment of drug-resistant infections is accepted bydoctors, and so that people who have these infections can be treatedwith essential oils early on. Anyway, the best defense is a goodoffense. Stay healthy.Best wishes,Joan Barice MDZatiti Ema, ND

Thanks Z. This is very interesting and speaking of infections,

yesterday while shopping in Glut Food Co-op (a.k.a. the meeting

place), we had the honor of bumping into Dick Gregory and Brother Bey.

There was a very brief conversation in relation to the " staph virus "

and we were advised to either stay away from salad bars or be very

careful when using them and to pay close attention geographically, to

where it's showing up.

Regardless to some information that Victoria Boutenko passed on to me

some years ago about door handles, elevator buttons, shopping carts

and the like, I am very suspicious about touching any of them. I am

constantly washing my hands or keeping wipes near me. Victoria said

that because our bodies produce loads of bacteria fighters that we

shouldn't worry as much about touching various objects.

I not going to worry about it either, I'm just going to have my stuff on me and in my car. I won't wait until I get home to clean up.
