DC Produce Co-op for this week & Changes to Boxes

Greetings all, I am sending out this weeks list. Reminder effective NOW we are a bi-weekly co-op. After deep thought and conversations with some, I have decided to make the co-op a organic co-op. NOW that is only for Freggie boxes, we will only have organic Freggie boxes, however we will keep some conventional items in our per item list. I know some of you ask why is this. This is only to save time, we have so few conventional boxes lately that it has not become cost effective to keep making conventional boxes. Half the time the conventional boxes have ended up with organic food in them. Some

may ask now what happens with the use of some of the African American Farmers we deal with for Conventional food. We still will get those conventional items from them, and also we are working with several black owned farms in the Carolina’s to get them certified. We have several that are in there 2nd 3rd year of transitional growing and can be used for our organic boxes . ** For those who don’t know the certifying process a farm must go through a transitional period of 3 years using solely organic methods before it can

become a certifiable farm. All of these farms have always used organic methods and are now just going through the process to get the seal.
