Hi , In my opinion it went well. The food demos were very good and interesting . Vendors had some great products. I was expecting a little more people, but I only went on Saturday, maybe more people were there on Sunday .The weather was great ,it didn't rain like it was forcasted. The tickets were a little pricey but I got a lot of good info.ROSALIND COLEMAN From: theyabbapotDate: Wed, 2 Sep 2009 10:56:06 -0400 Raw Spirit Festival

Hi All,I t was great to be around raw folks at the festival. Though there were not huge crowds, there was a lot of human diversity at the event, which I thought was wonderful. There are a few things I think they could do better next year, but overall it was a nice event.Asia--- On Thu, 9/3/09, JOHN CURL <johnxoie wrote:JOHN CURL <johnxoieRE: Raw Spirit Festival Date: Thursday, September 3, 2009, 6:54 AM

Thanks! I thought the price may deter many people from

going. I had a lot of friends say that was

the reason they didn’t go. But hopefully next year they get some corporate

sponsors involved so that the entry to the festival is little to nothing.

Hello Everyone!!

I thought it was pretty cool.

Things I like about it:

Being amongst positive like minded individuals.

Great vibe

Watching Phillip McCluskey speak. He is such an inpiration to me.

Watching Queen Afua speak. She moved me.

Watching Brenda Cobb! She had a great story to tell!

Getting free samples from the vitamix stand!

Watching the wonderful Demo chefs do their thing, especially Raw Dog and Khepra Anu. The samples were delicious and gave me ideas to take home.

Things I was not excited about:

The food was awesome, but totally expensive 7 dollars for a single sandwich about the size of a half muffin. Raw enchiladas were amazing, but 9 bucks! Wow. I'm a struggling student so this hit me hard. I got smarter on Sunday and brought my own food. :)

Overall I thought it was such a wonderful event to have and the good totally outweighed the not so good. The Park was beautiful and wide open with space. Although I did expect more people, it was interesting meeting and being amongst different raw foodist and learning bits and pieces from each of them. I would do it again hopeful that next year it would grow!

Hello Skai

Ha ha, I know it seems so, but I did make an awesome brownie and a great seaweed salad from which I learned from the Raw spirit fest. So I felt I did not miss out on much. I did most of my sampling on Saturday then on Sunday, just relaxed amongst great people. I also sent an email to one of the promoters (as requested by Sharon) just to give them some feedback. So I agree, hopefully next year will be easier on some of the cost conscience people like myself.

I think this is a great opportunity for discussion. I wonder, from the masses ;-)what do you expect to pay for a raw dinner --appetizer, salad, entree? How about just an entree?what do you expect to pay for a class which includes food sampling?

We brought some of our own snacks, because of my son’s nut

& legume allergies. But, otherwise, we spent equal to the amount of admission

on prepared food and stuff from vendors… totally fun, but definitely

expensive!

We came with three young kids, and had intended to stay

overnight down there and do both days, but by mid afternoon on Saturday, we were

sunburned and exhausted, and decided to head home. And, if we had stayed

another day, we probably would have blown through our food budget for the

month! LOL I prepare food for a family, and try hard to use fresh,

organic whole foods, so I understand the time and cost that goes into preparing

a lot of the raw food gourmet dishes, so I wasn’t surprised by the

prices. Nonetheless, my request for next year would be a bigger farmers

market and just a good SALAD BAR! J

I’m glad this is going to be an annual event. Next

year, we’ll come better prepared with lawn chairs and umbrellas for

shade. I wanted to sit and listen to some of the lectures, but my kids

were hot and bothered! LOL

All in all, a good experience… and hoping we can make it

an annual tradition! And, I will definitely forward my input to the

Raw Spirit organizers… J

Hi Sharon, All,I honestly felt that the food at the festival was extremely over priced. I agree with the person who said just having a large salad bar would have been nice. I mean, it cost a lot to attend the event and $15-$20 a day for a small appetizer, raw chips and some fruit was just too much for me. I appreciated Khepra Anew (I hope I am getting his name right), the Chef from Senneb cafe who, on Sunday, managed to create a delicious plate of food for $12. I still thought that was a little high---and would have prefferred $10. But, it was PLATE of food with several dense and filling items, vs. say $8 for a small live taco and another $3 or $4 or $5 for a beverage. Since this was my first Raw Spirit Fest. I thought there were going to be a LOT of food vendors with different items, raw desserts, entrees,

and items I don't usually have time to make at home. I would have been willing to pay a bit more to try those items. But, (at least on Saturday) there didn't seem to be many options. The water situation was also particularly challenging. Regarding your questions, If I were going to a high-end raw restaurant, I would expect to pay what similarly priced restaurants charge. I know that's vague, but, it's hard to be more specific than that. Again, at a fancy restaurant, I would expect the food prices to be higher---commensurate with what similarly ranked establishments charge. If I am going to a raw deli or cafe, I do not want to pay high-end restaurant prices, especially for things I can make at home.If I am taking a class or workshop on raw food, I would be willing to pay anywhere from 10-100$ or more depending on, who is presenting, the length of the class/demo, and the kind of meal included.

America is an extreme economic environment, you either rely on isolated smart

people with a gift for both living food and marketing or you start now the

Asia (or anyone), I wonder if you can say more? You'd pay $20 to see Big Name Raw Person who will then tell you you need hundreds of dollars of their products? Or would you spend $50 to see Big Name?Would you spend $50 to see Little Name Person not selling anything but knowledge?

Would you spend $50 to see a food demo class and have some tasting? Would you spend $150 to see a food demo class, have some food and get a piece of paper at the end (called Certification --- but really if it's only coming from Little Name Person it doesn't mean anything except that they gave you a piece of paper)?

I think $50 - $150 is

reasonable to learn from a class in one day (really a few hours). I am amazed at people who want to charge

$500 and up to learn about raw food and healing. I mean it really isn’t that

scientific when you really look at it.

I found myself doing a two and a half week Seva

(work exchange) at the Tree of Life…for free. Priceless! The knowledge is out there and if you

really want to make money like that then writing a book is invaluable. But these little workshops that people

create and want me to give up $1000 for a one day workshop. Im not for it!

right), the Chef from Senneb cafe who, on Sunday, managed to create a

delicious plate of food for $12. I still thought that was a little

high---and would have prefferred $10. But, it was PLATE of food with

several dense and filling items, vs. say $8 for a small live taco and another

$3 or $4 or $5 for a beverage.

Since this was my first Raw Spirit Fest. I thought there were going to be a

LOT of food vendors with different items, raw desserts, entrees, and items I

don't usually have time to make at home. I would have been willing to

pay a bit more to try those items. But, (at least on Saturday) there

didn't seem to be many options. The water situation was also

particularly challenging.

Regarding your questions, If I were going to a high-end raw restaurant, I

would expect to pay what similarly priced restaurants charge. I know

that's vague, but, it's hard to be more specific than that. Again, at a

fancy restaurant, I would expect the food prices to be higher---commensurate

with what similarly ranked establishments charge. If I am going to a

raw deli or cafe, I do not want to pay high-end restaurant prices, especially

for things I can make at home.

If I am taking a class or workshop on raw food, I would be willing to pay

anywhere from 10-100$ or more depending on, who is presenting, the length of

the class/demo, and the kind of meal included.

Peace,

AB

I think $50 - $150 is reasonable to learn from a class in one day (really a few hours). I am amazed at people who want to charge $500 and up to learn about raw food and healing. I mean it really isn’t that scientific when you really look at it. I found myself doing a two and a half week Seva (work exchange) at the Tree of Life…for free. Priceless! The knowledge is out there and if you really want to make money like that then writing a book is invaluable. But these little workshops that people create and want me to give up $1000 for a one day workshop. Im not for it!

Asia (or anyone), I wonder if you can say more? You'd pay $20 to see Big Name Raw Person who will then tell you you need hundreds of dollars of their products? Or would you spend $50 to see Big Name?Would you spend $50 to see Little Name Person not selling anything but knowledge?Would you spend $50 to see a food demo class and have some tasting? Would you spend $150 to see a food demo class, have some food and get a piece of paper at the end (called Certification --- but really if it's only coming from Little Name Person it doesn't mean anything except that they gave you a piece of paper)?thanks -- trying to learn and create what is needed.~~Sharon GreenspanBoard Certified Holistic Health Practitioner* Eliminate Stress * Have More Energy * Relieve Chronic Pain * 301-816-0752check out my new look:~~~ www.wildsuccess.us ~~~

Sharon,I am not sure where you are going with the line of questioning. Direct, point driven queries work best with me. But for the record, for me it is not about "little name" vs. "big name". It is about what I know about that person and their vibration and what I am seeking to learn from them. I should also add that I am not real big on raw prep. classes or "food demos" that include "tasting". That's just not my thing. I would just rather have well researched info. (lecture, seminar, interview, discussion) and then do my own thing in my kitchen/ OR get together with some friends for a potluck. Hi Asia,Thanks for your response. No hidden agenda here -- just trying to figure out what people are looking for. Sounds like you and I are on the same page -- which in my experience is different from most people. People constantly ask me for recipes or to teach food prep. I also constantly get phone calls from people who have taken raw chef classes, are certified, or worked with international names and keep " falling off the wagon. "

My approach is outside food, as that's such a small part of it; not the critical factor; and there are tons of recipe resources out there. There are few resources to help folks determine why they truly want to make a change; how to negotiate social scenes, and how to manage the emotional aspects of transition.
