Eastern Standard Time, whateverwhenever007 writes: i dont even know what happens if u have high blood pressure, but i want to maintain it. This e-mail REALLY got to me. First and foremost....regular table salt is an enemy of blood pressure...so is anger....or too much stress. At 19...there is so much you can do to reduce your blood pressure. Yes, a raw food lifestyle may be all you need ( eliminating all of the 100's of additives does ANYBODY great good). What are the effects of high blood pressure?...For one thing stroke....cerebral hemorrhage. I am sorry about the tone of this note, but you see, I am currently taking care of my Dad who had a stroke (with cerebral hemorrhage). I am lucky that he is even alive (and I have gratitude everyday for that fact). He is not " so " happy and he will be enduring therapy for some time to come. There is so much that you can do at your age to erase the problem. Read everything that you can about natural living. My Dad is now a strict vegetarian (he is not able to even properly swallow raw foods). I have managed to keep his blood pressure low with the organic foods that I have been feeding him. Much light and love to you in your search for a better way. Stick with the list here....LOTS of helpful information to be gleaned. Bright Blessings, Stacey

Guest guest
Whatever 'diet' you are on, try taking *hawthorne berry* as a supplement. My dh has had great results taking the liquid form, and he mostly eats fried foods, chili, cheese, etc. His bp went down from approximately 160/98 to approximately 132/88 in about 1 week, and that was all he did! A change in diet will definitely help though! Maybe you could use the hawthorne berry in the beginning and as you change your diet you could wean yourself off of it? Guest guest
You do NOT want high blood pressure! Especially at your age, it should be pretty normal. What's normal? About 110/80? I'm not real sure. Mine is always way low, has been all my life. Shari

Guest guest
Hi " whatever whenever " , I knew your name was not Sharon----mine is! They use to say that an average blood pressure reading was 120/80, now they are dropping those numbers even lower. It depends on high your bp is as to the seriousness of it. I took bp's for years and just being in the presence of a doctor can raise some people's pressure. If you have access to a bp equipment, take it sporadically and compare the readings. Reducing salt in the diet is a must. As far as the raw diet being for you. IMHO I think the raw diet is for everyone who is looking to improve their lifestyles. Sharon In our hearts we plan our day, but it is God who determines our steps. Guest guest
Hiya WW, Go to the grocery and buy the hottest peppers they sell. Use these in your food. You can find some powdered cayenne pepper and use it as well. You can also make a tincture (if this isn't on topic for the group, I do apologize. I'm new to raw.) by blending peppers and mixing with vodka, or apple cider vinegar. Keep this mixture in a jar, shaking daily for about 2 weeks. At the end of two weeks, strain through a coffee filter and the remaining liquid is the tincture. Do not get this on your hands, it will burn the snot out of your skin (I speak from experience)! Your homemade tincture will be leagues better than anything you can buy at the health food store. I currently take 6 drops a day in juice for improved circulation and to protect my heart. Likely as my diet improves so will my health and I won't need it any longer, but for now I deal with the issues I have. Your blood pressure absolutely can go back to normal! Stress can be a major factor. You are very worried about your condition, and rightly so. Your best weapon against this is knowledge. Read read and read some more. Learn all you can about diet and blood pressure. Find out what foods are best to eat. Be proactive so you aren't feeling like this is happening *to* you, but that you have the control because ultimately you really do. You are in charge of your life, and of your health. You are your own champion. You can do the things and make the changes you need for yourself. I'm rooting for ya!! -Raine whatever whenever wrote: > thanks Raine, > > where can i purchase this pepper? and how long do you think it takes > to go back to normal? i mean can one ever go back to normal? and can > it be caused by stress? > > Raine <raineluvsj wrote: > Cayenne is what I would use if I had high blood pressure; > http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/cayenne.htm > -- Join our club and swap paperback books for FREE - PaperBackSwap.com <http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php?n=2 & r_by=raineluvsj >
Guest guest
From what I've read it's processed *table* salt that's detrimental to BP. Natural sea salt shouldn't affect it negatively at all. (Though I am human and don't know everything.) Of course a raw diet is likely the best move WW can make. -Raine, learning as we go vegigran wrote: > Hi " whatever whenever " , > > I knew your name was not Sharon----mine is! Guest guest
Most of the longtime raw folks say to avoid ALL salt. That includes the " natural " salts. The only truly natural salt is what comes in food, celery is the best if you need a salt fix. Shari
Guest guest
i heard bananas are a good fix of salt, they have the potassium we need, so does this mean i cannot eat ice cream with almonds? baskin robins, i need it..lol! guys its day two on raw food diet and i feel normal, yesterday i was hungry and constantly eating fruit, Raine, thanks so much for the advice, i majorly appreciate it, i guess my biggest problem is i get stressed out to much and take myself too seriously, i just need to relax, im only 19 its crazy! Raine, i think i wil take you up on the whole hot pepper thing, but cant make that tincture you suggested as i cannot drink alcohol. but i have a question, i get BAD BAD stomach pains when i consume sweetcorn, and start throwing up, like food poisoning, i think i may have a mild case of ibs, irritable bowel syndrome, so is it still OK to eat the hot red peppers? I've been eating fruit and salads.. had half a packet on biscuits (but thats generally morning cravings) .. so one chocolate bar or ice cream wont hurt? would it? Guest guest
Hiya WW, Your reaction to corn sounds like a possible food allergy. It is a grain, and that's a very common allergy as I understand it. As for the cayenne, everything I've read states that it aids digestion. The herbalist Dr. Schulze says, " *Cayenne is a Stomachic, HELPING to DIGEST Foods and a Carminative, HELPING to EXPEL Gas. " http://healingtools.tripod.com/thns15.html The best I can offer is the suggestion to try a very small bit and see how your body reacts. Then you will be better informed for making further decisions. There has been some incredible discussion about transitioning, letting go of emotions connected to certain foods, and how to handle slip ups productively on the rawschool group. I've really learned a lot from it, and it may help you with things like cravings, stress, feelings of being helpless or out of control, etc... Success to ya! -Raine * whatever whenever wrote: > i heard bananas are a good fix of salt, they have the potassium we > need, so does this mean i cannot eat ice cream with almonds? baskin > robins, i need it..lol! > > guys its day two on raw food diet and i feel normal, yesterday i was > hungry and constantly eating fruit, Raine, thanks so much for the > advice, i majorly appreciate it, i guess my biggest problem is i get > stressed out to much and take myself too seriously, i just need to > relax, im only 19 its crazy! > > Raine, i think i wil take you up on the whole hot pepper thing, but > cant make that tincture you suggested as i cannot drink alcohol. but i > have a question, i get BAD BAD stomach pains when i consume sweetcorn, > and start throwing up, like food poisoning, i think i may have a mild > case of ibs, irritable bowel syndrome, so is it still OK to eat the > hot red peppers? > > I've been eating fruit and salads.. had half a packet on biscuits > (but thats generally morning cravings) .. so one chocolate bar or ice > cream wont hurt? would it? > -- Join our club and swap paperback books for FREE - PaperBackSwap.com <http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php?n=2 & r_by=raineluvsj >
Guest guest
I am slim, mostly raw (and 100% vegetarian), walk 2 miles daily 69yo. Recently in doctor office my blood pressure (systolic) was too high. Had this prob before (white coat hypertension)because I do get anxious easily and used to take it at home regularly, last time was in January and my results were good. Well took it the other day at home and systolic was high although I was abit nervous. Now I am worried I will end up on bp meds, not because a doctor tells me to but because I keep reading about strokes etc. Has anyone had high bp and been ok trying natural ways to get it down? Am doing just about all raw now btw. Thanks for any help and encouragement, this is really stressing me out which is not going to help me plus now fearful of taking it again hette
Guest guest
First, the main culprit of high bp is stress so managing your stress is essential. 1. Making sure you are hydrated (drinking enough water). Ideally half your body weight in ounces drank daily. So if you weigh 120 pounds then you should drink 60 oz or around 8 glasses. If you weigh more than that, definitely drink more. Sometimes higher bp is because the body fluids are simply too concentrated. 2. lose weight if you are not the ideal weight for your height. 3. increase your green vegetables (magnesium and other things) and veggies/fruits that contain Vitamin C. A green smoothie every morning could help 4. increase healthy oils. 5. since you are a vegetarian and stress is getting to you, you probably have a deficiency in the amino acid taurine which is found in animal products like eggs or fish. Take a taurine supplement of 3 to 5 grams daily for a few months and then decrease to the dosage recommended on the bottle. Taurine deficiency will also show itself in the inability to handle stress or to manage moods which you have mentioned. 6. Co Q 10 (coenzyme 10) can be taken as supplement since this decreases with age and will affect bp. 50 mg twice a day for 3 months and then down to dosage recommended. This will help lower it and repair any damage.7. Phthalide really helps to lower bp. This is mostly found in celery. It lowers bp by reducing stress hormones which seem to be your biggest challenge. Some people take celery seed extract but I would recommend you include 2 to 4 pieces of raw celery in your daily diet (and a supplement when traveling). Juice it or eat it straight or in recipes. Some people like it with raw almond or cashew butter as a snack. This has been known to decrease bp by 10 to 14% after a few months. 8. Most important is your stress. Meditation, yoga, affirmative prayer, changing your attitude can all contribute to the reduction. Some times the stress contributes to increase in bp or the increase in bp sometimes contributes to you feeling more stressed. So approach it both ways just in case. The supplements, improvement of outlook/attitude and the additions to your diet should help you feel more balanced and less agitated. Guest guest
greetings hettenna a few questions: what exactly was your bp? what is your exercise regimen? how much water do you drink daily? (email me if you like) i have suggested people use fresh garlic cloves, 2-3 a day and fresh parsley tea, two times a day with success. of course, we must keep your anxiety down, as that is not helping. possibly keeping a journal daily for at least a week will allow you to see what is triggering your anxiety. hope that helps in peace belit hettenna <annmdusa Sent: Tue, April 20, 2010 5:14:33 AM high blood pressure I am slim, mostly raw (and 100% vegetarian), walk 2 miles daily 69yo. Guest guest
I recommended chlorella to a friend who had experienced chronic high bp his adult life. His pressure dropped by 20 points. But it consistently remained normal after turning his business over to his daughter. Stress can play a big part. Sugars and processed starches contribute to bp issues too by causing the heart to over-work--required to pump blood through too many miles of sluggish blood vessels.
