Meal Replacement Drinks

I need some recipes folks. Here's the deal: I'm ill, and one of the

problems is that I have absolutely no appetite. I'm forcing down a

little fruit and juice daily, and occasionally a bit of cereal. As was

kindly pointed out to me, my body needs the right nutrients to heal

itself, and I'm obviously not giving it those. Ensure, or one of those

types of drinks is a possibility, but frankly I'm a little suspicious of

what's in them and what they'll do to my digestion.

So....If anyone has any recipes or suggestions for things I could toss

in a blender/food processor and sip on, I'd be grateful. I'm craving

sweet, and my blood sugar is way too low because I'm not eating

properly, so anything with fruit, etc would be especially good. Getting

to the store is beyond my energy reserves at the moment, but peapod.com

delivers wonderful produce. They don't, however, tend to have " exotic "

ingredients.

TIA for anything you might come up with.....

My favorite 'smoothie' -

Milk (I drink dairy milk, but you could use soymilk)

A banana

A drop or two of vanilla (I use the vanilla bottle cap to

measure it - one capful)

A tablespoon of soy protein powder

A tablespoon of peanut butter

I toss in an ice cube, to make it cool and frothy.

This would be excellent for you, I'd think. Very

nutritious.

The other thing I would do, if I were you, is to buy

'Carnation Instant Breakfast' and have that in milk. The

chocolate flavor tastes VERY good.

It's also vastly cheaper than 'Ensure' and similar, and has

about the same nutritional qualities.

You don't even need to use a blender, just mix it in a glass

of milk with a spoon.

Yes, it's a processed food, but it's good for an emergency

and you have an emergency now.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

I was wondering if you could call your local healthfood store and explain your

situation to them. I was reading through my latest issue of Veggie Times and

I saw an ad for Spiru-tein, a high energy, high protein shake. They offer 14

flavors so it would be difficult to get tired of it. Also they are non-GMO

natural soy. Here is the website for the company that makes them so you

can research.

If you live in an area with a nice healthfood store, even a mom & pop type

place, they might deliver to you on their way home, especially if you told them

your situation. One thing about veggie folks, they are generally very nice and

way cool.

I will also keep my eyes open for good smoothie recipes and ideas for you. I

hope you get well soon. Namaste.

I would like to say that I use Spirotein and I LOVE it. It is very good

tasting. I like most all of their flavors. By all means be sure and try it.

Thanks for the info about it. The flavors sure looked yummy in the print ad I

saw. I think I might have to try some myself, and give some to my kids on

those mornings we just don't want to eat breakfast... or don't have time.

So many flavors, too.

vanilla

chocolate

strawberry

banana

cappuccino

tropical fruit

chocolate-peanutbutter swirl

nutty berry best

cookies and cream

peaches and cream

strawberry shortcake

cherries jubilee

simply natural

strawberry banana

I hope these might be an option for Sherri.
