Guest guest
I've never tasted yellow split peas. Do they taste the same as green split peas? Pat -- Pat Meadows Books, books! I think the rule goes with most beans, peas and legumes, that they tend to adopt the flavors of the other ingredients they are combined with, hence their versatility. (?) Split pea-lovers, do jump in and give Pat an articulate reply. Merci! *s* ~ Feral ~

If I can find the yellow ones, I'll try them next. Pat -- Pat Meadows Books, books! Low prices. I think I have had split peas in other vegetable soups though, but they weren't the main ingredient per say. I have seen the yellow, and I think orange (?) ones in the bulk section of my healthfood market. I bet combining them would make a lovely harvest soup. Do you have a recipe for split-pea soup that is vegetarian you could share with me? Thanks in advance. ~ Feral ~

I put a 1-lb package of them in the crockpot. I add the following: * a couple of sliced carrots (if small - one if large) * chopped onion (one if very large, a couple if small) * chopped celery, about two stalks (with leaves) * two bayleaves Then I put in water to cover, plus some more. Then I cook it all day on low. I add lots of freshly ground black pepper when I'm read to serve it, and some salt. It wants to be very thick, almost like porridge. Cornbread is good served with this.
