Guest guest
I take daily supplements, do any of you? I just do it out of habit now, more than out of concern that I am not getting my daily nutrients from food. I figure it is just as well, and if I miss something they will fill in the blanks. Here is a list of my daily " pills " : B complex (2) C 1000mg (1) E 400IU (1) Cayene ~ cool~ 100,000 heat-unit (1) Ginko Biloba 60 mg (1) Calcium 500 with D (2) Chromium picolinate 200mcg (2 to 3) Siberian Ginseg Root 410 mg (1) And if I am worried about a cold or bug floating around my kid's school, or just want to be extra careful to boost my immune system I take a herbal defense formula called Wellness Formula by Source Naturals. That about covers it. *lol*
Guest guest
I take a multivitamin with lots of iron (chronic anemia) and 2 grams of Vitamin C. I should probably add some E to the mix too... Genie Feral wrote:I take daily supplements, do any of you? Guest guest
I have been taking a variety of supplements for quite a few years now. Mostly I have taken different herbal combinations from Nature's Sunshine. This year I tried some Sunrider products but decided they were too expensive and that you had to take too many pills per bottle(would go through the bottle too fast). Right now I am trying out Seasilver which is a liquid supplement that claims to contain every vitamin, mineral, nutrient needed by the human body and in perfect balance. I am not sure what I think about it yet. I also just started taking citrimax and chromium because I would really like to lose five pounds. Anne Feral wrote:I take daily supplements, do any of you? Guest guest
I used to take vitamin pills -- but I gave them up for my health. lol! I was listening to something on the radio that said they pull out TONS of undigested vitamins out of the sewer system every year in a town near here. No sense wasting good money that way, eh? Scientists have announced that the body doesn't recognize some synthesized vitamins (surprise! not). The natural ones from the HFS are very expensive, and usually about big enough to gag a horse. I could see the headlines now, " WOMAN CHOKES TO DEATH ON VITAMIN PILL. " lol! What the body does recognize and process is food (Mother Nature knows best). So the best way to get our vitamins/minerals is from a food source. Yes, I realize the soil is raped, etc, but when foods are concentrated in powdered form, the nutrients are high because they're condensed. I paid a lot for some (powdered) vitamins from a naturopath, and next time I'll make my own batch. Here's what's in the jar: Organic -- Spirulena Blue Green Algae, Chlorella broken-cell algae, alfalfa, barley and wheat grasses, purple dulse seaweed, beet root, spinach leaf, rose hips, orange peel, lemon peel and astragalus, all in a base of non-fermentable saccharomyces cevisisae yeast (whatever that is). So why can't we just make our own? I get bee pollen from the feed store (for horses) CHEAP -- like $23 for 3 lbs! It's the same stuff you pay a fortune for in the HFS. Bee Pollen contains at least 22 amino acids, 18 vitamins, 25 minerals, 59 trace elements, 11 enzymes or co-enzymes, 14 fatty acids, 11 carbohydrates and approximately 25 % protein. WARNING: If you've never taken bee pollen before you *might* have an allergic reaction. So... start out by taking a teensy piece of one grain, hold it on your tongue and see what happens. If you tolerate that well, then work up the dosage slowly to one tablespoon a day. Here is the chemical analysis of bee pollen: http://www.envirobee.com/beepollen3.htm Sometimes I also do some whey powder in soy milk, as it supplies complete protein, I understand. Incidentally, a craving for nuts, cheese and chocolate can be from a shortage of phenylalanine, one of the essential amino acids that our bodies can't manufacture. We have to get it from food. Phenylalanine is found in most foods that contain protein such as beef, poultry, pork, fish, milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, soy products (including soy protein isolate, soybean flour, and tofu), and certain nuts and seeds. The artificial sweetener aspartame is also high in phenylalanine. So for some of us, this can be a consideration, but you can buy phenylalanine in the HFS -- or rely on whey powder and soy products if you're vegan.
