A chigger is an evil little creature that hangs out in tall weeds/grass and hops

onto passing warm blooded critters. It burrows into your skin and lays its egss

(though I am not entirely sure on that) and then itches like H$#@. For a long

time. They like to go to tight places, sock, underwear lines, bra lines...

lovely places to be scratching. We had them up in Kansas and also down here,

but not in the Carribean. We had other itchy things down there. The old remedy

is to put nail polish on them but I dont think that works. I take an allergy

drug, like Claritin (also used wonderfully on poison ivy) or something like

that. Anyways, bug spray works great to keep them off but only if you remember

to use it. When my friend and I went picking mustang grapes for jelly, we

forgot to use bug juice. You would think two field botanists would keep it in

the truck all the time... I literally had 2-300 bites. I nearly went mad. As

bad as a good case of poison ivy. But now that I've found Claritin, poison ivy

isn't so bad. I love drugs. (Can we say or so very very allergic to the green

itchy stuff?)

OK, enough rambling on itchy critters... Genie

Thanks for the info about chiggers. I am assuming they aren't really very big,

and they just burrow deep enough to lay eggs, but don't take up residence

there; please tell me they don't, I'm itchy just thinking about them. *lol*

Nope. Oregon doesn't have chiggers. Phew.

None in Pennsylvania either. I'm very happy about that.

I actually LIKE cold weather, and detest heat and humidity.

We're in northern PA, in the Appalachians - this is a good

place for me.
