There seem to be more and more milk alternatives available in our area lately.

Have you tried any others? There is rice milk. I found it all right but not my

thing. Recently they started selling almond milk in our grocery store and I

absolutely love that, but found the vanilla and chocolate better than the plain

which had more of an almond taste.

Also, try different brands of soy milk if they are available. You might find you

like some better than others. That was the case for me anyhow.

My son loves Rice Dream, original enriched. The rice milk is too sweet for

me, (and tastes too much like rice...) though and I prefer Soy Dream,

original enriched. I even cook with it. BUT... I Love 8th Continent

chocolate soy milk. It's soooo good. But it's too sweet, so I tone it down

a bit by adding some original soy milk into it! LOL. The rest of my family

drinks regular ol' cow milk. :)

I like Rice Dream Vanilla Enriched although I use plain for cooking. I guess my

favorite Soy Milk would be Silk. I think that their chocolate variety is

scrumptious. I also like Almond Milk in any flavor. The vanilla kind is great

warmed and flavored with some extra vanilla syrup. I think that soy milk is also

great when heated with honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and even a little bit of dried

orange rind. It's great on a cold morning(which is rare here in Az!).

Greetings,

My favorite soy milk is Edensoy Extra Plain. I don't

like sweets too much so don't go for the vanilla nor

chocolate flavored. I find Edensoy delicious and will

drink it room temperature right out of the box. On

the other hand, my husband prefers Better Than Milk -

a dry powder that is rehydrated with water. It comes

in plain, vanilla, or chocolate.

I will try the suggestion of heating soy milk with

cinammon and nutmeg. When I was a little girl, my

mother always gave me warm milk with cinammon to put

me to sleep at night. I have great comforting

memories from then. Thanks for the idea.

That is a great idea. You all are inspiring me to try some more of this stuff. I

am lacto-ovo so I have only tried some of the different soy milks out there,

though never have I tried any in cooking. My daughter has a hard time

digesting regular milk, but it doesn't seem to bother her in cheese, yogurt, or

in cooking. In the morning she often drinks an instant breakfast shake with

soy milk instead of cow milk. I will have to get her to try some of the almond

milk, too.

Although I'm lacto-ovo, I do try to avoid dairy, especially for the

children. They eat enough cheese as it is. So I use soymilk or rice milk or

oatmilk (wonderfully sweet even without any sweeteners) for cooking,

bechamel cream, cakes, breakfast cereals, etc...

As for drinking, as they don't taste so great on their own, I only use them

with carob powder and when I plan to give the children biscuits to dip in .

That's a treat once in a while, of course.

I try not to overdo it with soy dairy replacements anyway, as they are bad

for health (I have lots in my files about that, I've made a thorough study

because it was important to me. If anybody is interested I can send the info

offlist). Soy in bean form is good, soy sauce is good, but soy milk and tofu

should be used in moderation, so it's good there is rice milk , almond milk

and oat milk for variety. Of course, it's not so interesting to put oatmilk

in oat cereal, or even rice, which is another cereal, almonds are already

there in the muesli, so in those cases I usually prefer soymilk.
