Guest guest
I've never actually made this sauce, but I've enjoyed it immensely. The recipe comes from one of my favourite local restaurants. The first time i had it, it was used to baste corn on the cob for grilling. What a wonderful combination of flavours! If you're looking for a more traditional BBQ sauce recipe, I can email my mother. I know she always made ours, preferring it to anything that could be bought bottled. Chipotle BBQ Sauce ½ cup of pureed tomatoes ¼ cup of chipotle peppers diced 2 tblsp. Molasses 2 tblsp. Balsamic vinegar 1 tbslp. Minced oregano 1 garlic clove minced 1 teasp. Kosher salt ¼ teasp. Freshly ground white pepper Whisk all ingredients together and use to generously baste food for grilling. -- Sherri " Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom, and being one's own person is its ultimate reward. We can't get chipotles here in Pennsylvania (we CAN get Pennsylvania Dutch foods, though). Anyway, I do have ground chipotle powder, bought from Penzeys - just want to mention that I think you could substitute the powder. I think they sell the dried peppers too, I'll take a look. If anyone here doesn't know about Penzeys, they are a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL spice/herb seller: lower prices than the supermarkets and the quality of what they sell is MUCH higher: the herbs are worlds fresher than supermarket stuff, so are the spices. They have a few stores, but I've never been to one, I order online. Their catalog is lovely, always has some recipes (not vegetarian particularly), and always has an article about how one spice or herb is grown and harvested, very interesting. http://www.penzeys.com Pat -- Pat Meadows Books, books! Low prices. Music CDs too! http://www.wellsborocomputing.com/sales.html

It would be lovely brushed over grilled veggies or poured on a gardenburger even, instead of ketchup. We usually have access up here to mexican cooking items in our markets b/c of the Hispanic/Californian influence. So many Cali-folks have moved up to avoid the high taxes, etc, and our climate is very similar here in Southern Oregon. Hopefully I can find some fresh chipotle peppers, but in case all I can locate this time of year are the dried ones, how many would you suggest I use in this recipe, and should i try soaking them in warm water first to allow them to expand a bit? I forgot to add that, yes, I would be very appreciative if you could get the traditional BBQ sauce recipe from your mom. Guest guest
: Oregon. Hopefully I can find some fresh chipotle peppers, but : in case all I can : locate this time of year are the dried ones, how many would : you suggest I : use in this recipe, and should i try soaking them in warm : water first to allow : them to expand a bit? : don't worry about looking for fresh chipotles, because they are dried smoked jalapenos. at least that's my understanding. kate
