Guest guest
Hi everyone. Glad to be here. I love cooking. I live on a farm and grow most all my own veggies and fruit. There is nothing like the taste of a fresh picked tomato on a warm summer day. I can see there are some wonderful recipes in the club I am going to try. I will gladly share any recipe that I have. So, again thanks for the invite to your group. Pamela
Guest guest
Welcome! I have to say that this is my favorite group...I have had so many evenings taken care of by receiving a recipe that day:) Wonderful recipes I might add. Looking forward to getting one from you. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Pat, I've been reading everyone's posts about Katycat...I will look at the pics as soon as I send this off. She sounds like quite the priss:) I had the barley caserole for supper tonight - I forget who posted it but --- YUMMY! I only added a little fennel to it, other than that, I didn't change a thing. Last night I had the cheeseburger soup...Oh my, talk about comfort food! Hubby loved it. Well, my stepdad is in the hospital...The day after Thanksgiving he drove himself to the ER due to some extreme pains he had in his abdomen. Turns out he had a massive Gall Bladder problem and it had to be removed, the doctor said he has never seen one that diseased. We almost lost him...It was that bad. They want to keep him and run some tests...They're suspecting problems with the prostate as well. It's been a little stressful to say the least. Now I have free reign to harp on his diet!!!!!!!!!!!! Besides all that, Thanksgiving was great...My Mother went all out making dishes for me to eat. I didn't care at all that I missed the turkey and stuffing...My plate was spilling over and the tastes on my tongue...OOOH baby! Enough blabbing...I'm going to look at Katycat now. Guest guest
Hi Pamela and welcome to the group/ <<I love cooking. I live on a farm and grow most all my own veggies and fruit. There is nothing like the taste of a fresh picked tomato on a warm summer day.>> My mother, whose grandfather made his living farming, and i were just talking today about how amazing it is the most children these days don't have a clue as to how things are grown. (I suppose they think it sprouted in the veggie section! LOL)When I try to describe to my girls how I grew up hanging out in crop fields, chasing cows and jumping in haylofts- they just don't have a clue as to what I am talking about and thats sad. Its fast becoming a lost art! I fondly think of days sitting on the back of my granddaddy's truck and chucking corn. So...all this said to say I am so envious that you are in a situation to grow your own things because you are right...there is nothing better than a home grown tomato, canalope or fresh picked beans. So please taste and enjoy one of the rare things for me! With kindness, Beth Pamela <pammy3861 wrote:Hi everyone. Glad to be here. I love cooking. Guest guest
Warm welcomes, Pamela. I am glad you decided to join. I grow my own tomatoes in the summer, and I love arugula as well. I'm not exactly a green thumb yet, but every year I garden I learn more. Right now there is cold and damp weather in the Pacific Northwest, but luckily I live in zone 4-7. I was thinking of trying to grow some of the more hearty lettuces and see how they fared this time of year. ~ P_T ~ A dog has the soul of a philosopher. --Plato ~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~ , " Pamela " <pammy3861> wrote: > Hi everyone. There is a quaint one around here that is run on the honor system; you know an open box and the prices listed. (the guy just trusts folks will drop the cash in and not take any out) Very cool place. Of course tomatoes aren't in season right now. I wonder how many here boycott the store bought ones this time of year like I do? Bleh. I'd rather eat cardboard than try to eat those pale things. *lol* A friend sang me this song to the tune of California Dreamin' once while we were shopping the produce isle of a grocery chain: All the leaves are brown, And the core is grey, California lettuce, Come to us this way.... ~ P_T ~ You will be better advised to watch what we do instead of what we say. ~ A.A. I occasionally use the canned 'fresh-cut' tomatoes in a salad, but more of my salads this time of year are cole slaw anyway. Lettuce is high, and not good either - matches the tomatoes! BTW, I remembered to look for the 'plain chocolate wafer cookies' when we went to the store yesterday: nope. Not there. I don't know if they have ceased to exist, or that our quite-basic supermarket here doesn't carry them. When we get up to Nearest Small City which has a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL supermarket (a Wegman's) I'll try to remember to look for them. But Wegman's is a very exciting experience for me these days: it has a wonderful ethnic section, a quite extensive natural foods section, and great fresh produce. None of which we have locally - this is the main disadvantage (for me) of living in such a rural area. I think chocolate grahams would work well too.
