Guest guest
Excellent solution and you can also try boosting or substituting with SPLENDA, which is made from sugar and thus remains stable for baking, unlike NUTRA SWEET, which is rumored to turn you into a Republican anyways. ... or something like that. Guest guest
My daughter's father used to make Aspartame (he's a chem engineer) and was telling me that he thought it amusing that Saccharine had been blacklisted since it is much more stable than aspartame... Aspartame will " bond to the DNA at very low temperatures--103 or so-- and can... " I forget what it can do, but anything that bonds to one's DNA is a bit freaky to me... just watch that Diet Coke when you have a fever!! -dawn , The Stewarts <stews9@c...> wrote: > Excellent solution and you can also try boosting or substituting with > SPLENDA, which is made from sugar and thus remains stable for baking, > unlike NUTRA SWEET, which is rumored to turn you into a Republican anyways. > .. or something like that. > > > On Saturday, January 4, 2003, at 04:33 PM, (AT) (DOT) > com wrote: > > > A solution that works for me is to cook brownies (or any other recipe I > > prepare) with less sugar. Guest guest
I think I missed part of the conversation but we use the Rapadura (sp). or the turbinado. I'm too lazy to go look at the spelling.. it's been a long, hard day. We use honey for drinks and breads etc. I don't like using/consuming things that humans have messed with too much. I like to keep it pretty close to nature. There is another sweetener and honestly I've had it here but can't think of the name. It was sort of grainy but the flavor wasn't bad. Guest guest
Not to mention Nutra Sweet has been found to cause brain damage... (aspartame)I have used this artificial sweetener and get very sick from it, severe headaches and nausea. I have Splenda (it does have an after taste) in my house which is made from refined sugar, but has altered hydrogen so that the body does not use it as it would sugar and does not store it as fat. It also does not raise blood sugar levels, so it is safe for diabetics to use. I have also read that because sugar is so refined that it is actually missing the nutrients that our body needs to process it, so ingesting it actually leaches nutrients from the body just so we can process it(why would Splenda be different?). The other thing that I have found about sugar (personally) is that it is addictive. That is the true problem that I have with sugar. As with any addiction, you don't control it, it controls you. When I have it, I want more of it. Not good. When you eat sugar, it produces the " happy " chemical in the brain...more sugar...more happy...LOL! I don't drink or do drugs and I quit smoking 7 years ago, but I do have a big history of alcoholism and drug addiction in my family. Alcohol is sugar and some research has found that certain people are more likely to become alcoholic because of the way their body processes it. I feel that is why I am more likely to be addicted to sugar. Just like an alcoholic, I need to stop using it. Thoughts? Guest guest
Feel I have to jump in here and agree with both big feet! I leave sugar alone for two reasons: one is that it is high in calories and not good for you anyway; the other is that once I have something sweet (maybe a couple of times a year, in a hotel breakfast room, maybe or at a friend's house - you know, usual weakness) I want more - and then the next day I find it is a craving I have to repress the desire for something else sweet that my palate found too sweet for real enjoyment anyway. Best to get the stuff from fruit ;=) best, pat P.S. And that's how and why a certain fast food near monopoly puts sugar in its hamburger buns and on its french fries. > The other thing that I have found about sugar > (personally) is that it is addictive. Guest guest
<...Splenda (it does have an after taste...> I personally haven't noticed any taste differences from sugar with Splenda ... other sugar substitutes leave a synthetic taste and dry mouth feeling behind Sweet and Low being worse for me than Nutra Sweet.
