I'm not familiar with the McDougall Weight Loss Plan (probably because i live in the UK and we're always the last to hear about these things) but it looks very interesting. So I'll check it out. The group i've started is an open to people following all kinds of diets - as long as they're veggie of course Feel free to check it out if you want some different recipes, thanks again, Laura x
Guest guest
Laura: I've just joined your new group. Hope you don't mind. I bring my own ideas to the group, however: I believe that anyone interested primarily in weight loss is taking a myopic approach to what should be health and wellness. A healthy person is not fat. A well person does not have hypertension, diabetes or cardiovascular disease--and probably never will. I think the way to health and wellness begins with diet and exercise, and perhaps right thinking, emotional serenity, spirituality or something like that. And I find all these things very difficult to do on my own. I'm looking for a support group. In fact, if I had a computer and understood this internet stuff, I would probably start my own group. Since I don't have all those things, would you mind if I try to influence your group? Recently, I read that the average American has extra calories stored on their bodies equal to 100,000 pancakes. It's my belief that they are *all* from eating too many carbos. There's a technical explanation for why, but I'll avoid it for now. Here's what I think a balanced, healthy diet includes: 17% fat, 33% protein, and 50% carbos. I've been maintinaing this combination for the past year. I figure I'm currently down to about 7,000 pancakes. I weight myself every day to have the record of weight loss verses foods eaten. On days when I get more than 50% carbos, I'll have an extra pound or two staring back at me on the scales. Dave
Guest guest
Hi Ron, sorry its taken me a while to reply to this mail but i was so busy i forgot to check my email (i can only access the computer evenings and weekends). Anyway, of course i don't mind you bringing your own ideas to the group. Thats what its for, a forum to discuss these kinds of issues. As i said before, the group is not just about weight loss but also about the broader aspects of health and well being. So, forget the name of the group, maybe i should rename it " vegetarian health, wellbeing and weight loss " . But thats beside the point, the name's not important. I agree that diet and exercise, along with the right frame of mind and positive thinking are the keys to not only a healthy life, but also a happy life. And you're not alone in wanting support with sticking to thses things. Hopefully this group is going to be able to offer you some support in your pursuit of health and happiness. But as, i think DaveO said recently to the other Laura, we can't help you unless you tell us how. If there is anything you think we can do that we aren't now then feel free to ask for help. If you do want to start your own group at anytime it is fairly simple. Simply go to the homepage and click on start my own group and it guides you through the process step by step. It is important though to invite people to join your group, otherwise you may not have many members (simply because people can't find it). As for my new group, i'm not sure that i like the word " influence " . You are an interesting and valued member and of course you are more than welcome to post messages and ask for advice or support. I sincerely hope that you do, but i do have one concern. This is thus: we have many group members, and everyone joined the group for different reasons. Some people are very healthy and just want to lose a few pounds, others, like yourself, have joined for health concerns. I am somewhere in the middle. The main thing is that i do not want to alienate any of the members through concentrating purely on your style of diet. Therefore i propose this. I will continue to post messages on dieting, health and wellbeing, and also continue posting low fat healthy vegetarian recipes, as i'm sure many of the members (including myself) are interested in these things - and this is what i started the group for in the first place. Do other group members agree with this? If you could just ignore the postings which are not relevant to you, this would probably be the easiest solution. Thanks for the email Ron, i hope you are feeling well today, Laura (uk) >Ron McClure To: > Vegetarian >Slimming Mon, 6 Jan 2003 08:51:49 -0800 (PST) > >Laura: > >I've just joined your new group.
