Guest guest
Hey gang...I copied and pasted this list that someone typed up from another veggie group that I belong to. I thought this might be useful for beginners as well seasoned veteran veggies as well (just in case). Maybe some other peeps can add to the list and we could have a master list (reminded of an SNL brokerage skit) to put in the files section. Just an idear. Shawn Pillsbury pre-made piecrust (lard) Pillsbury pre-made biscuits (lard) Most Hostess products (various animal fats) Most of the goodies in Mexican bakeries (lard) Various packaged cookies and crackers (lard and/or tallow) Junior Mints (gelatin) Mentos (gelatin) Gummy Bears . . . or just about gummy anything! (gelatin) Jelly Bellies (beeswax) A lot of restaurants will prepare pasta and rice by boiling it in chicken broth. Just be sure to ask! And Thai restaurants throw fish sauce on just about everything! " If, at first, you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment. " " If, at first, you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried. " " The last four letters in " American " spell out " I Can " . " " Everything's ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end. Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for the list. I was wondering about Mentos though. I have a roll right in front of me with the following ingredients: sugar glucose syrup acid (citric acid) hydrogentated coconut oil manioc starch gelling agent (gum arabic) -> a substance obtained from the Acacia Senegal tree (and therefore vegetarian). natural and artificial flavors (red 3, yellow 5) Not necessarily healthy but I don't see any gelatin. Of course you never know about those " natural and artificial flavors " Gary
Guest guest
add to that Skittles have gelatin in them as well so just about any similar candy could have it in there. I'm a dietary vegan & thought skittles would be perfect since it has no dairy products in it. Wrong. :-( Megan - _- MatrixenO -_ Monday, January 06, 2003 8:26 PM Lurking animal bi-products Hey gang...I copied and pasted this list that someone typed up from another veggie group that I belong to. For example Skittles over here are vegan friendly & one line of Oreo's are as well (the ones in the foil wrapper & the chocolate creme ones, the one with vanilla in a box have whey). Mentos still has gelitine though. Am willing to trade veg friendly mentos for veg friendly skittles And we don't get Clif Bars which is a crime Regards to the fish, LisA " I think---therefore I'm single... Guest guest
There are lot's of differences in what is in the same product sold in differnt parts of the world... just an example, in the US, McDonalds will not take the beef flavoring out of their french fries even though there are multiple law suits about it, but in India it has never been added for religious reasons. it's only when you can apparently convince a company that their product will never sell again that they will make things veggie friendly... or maybe i should say animal friendly... Guest guest
And of course there is the very real concern with camping season coming: WHAT ABOUT THE ROASTED MARSHMALLOWS???!!! I am going to miss these most of all, I think, and am hoping, like my gravy, that I find (or ya'll know about) a vegetarian marshmallow. Well, a marshmallow a vegetarian could eat. And roast. -dawn , allice98@a... wrote: > There are lot's of differences in what is in the same product sold in > differnt parts of the world... just an example, in the US, McDonalds will not > take the beef flavoring out of their french fries even though there are > multiple law suits about it, but in India it has never been added for > religious reasons. it's only when you can apparently convince a company that > their product will never sell again that they will make things veggie > friendly... or maybe i should say animal friendly... > > In a message dated 1/7/2003 8:10:25 PM Eastern Standard Time, > moonbug@u... writes: > > > hmmm, I'm noticing alot of diffences between the products available here > > in Australia & those overseas.
