Guest guest
I'm still keeping my eyes open for a vegetarian Thai 'fish' sauce, but meanwhile I have tried the suggestions of a couple of you. The soy sauce and lime juice ain't no fish sauce nowhow, but it sure imparts a pleasant tang to the stirfry. Thanks. Better than leaving it out, obviously. I could live with this one and forget about my search. I picked up a bottle of mushroom soy (I must be the only person left on the planet who cooks asian who hadn't tried it in her own cooking) from our friendly asian grocer. I found it a bit sweet, but it should work nicely in Thai food and I used it in what I call a pan-asian stirfry (one of the ubiquitous greens with chillies, ginger, garlic and soy quickies) and it was absolutely delicious. Shows what I know ;=) Thanks for the tips! best, pat -- PAT (In London, Ontario) Email List: townhounds- (townhounds/) Personal Email: SANTBROWN Personal Webpage: http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---------- * " Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace. Guest guest
Hello Pat, As I said, I haven't actually used the 'fish sauce' substitute yet, but it is good to hear your experience using it. It certainly sounds as if it gives Thai recipes a lift. Thanks too for the feedback on the tempeh recipes - it is nice to know that they have been shared and enjoyed. Until next time, Warm regards form Marie -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: Sant & Brown <santbrown Aan: The Feral Vegetarian Datum: donderdag 9 januari 2003 0:09 Onderwerp: about fish sauce substitutes I'm still keeping my eyes open for a vegetarian Thai 'fish' sauce, but meanwhile I have tried the suggestions of a couple of you.
