Guest guest
Yuck! I think I would have thrown it at the flight attendant's hair! " Just pick it out " , I would have said to her as they dragged me away in handcuffs. *lol* When I flew back to NY last summer I had good luck with my vegetarian meals, as far as airplane food goes. My only complaint would have been with the breakfast I had flying back. They had the audacity to give me grits! I am a NYer living in Oregon and I have never eaten grits in my life. I tried them, and they were nasty, I must say. They did give me peanut butter for my bagel though. All the meals were vegan as they had no lacto-ovo options. I think I would do that again, really. I believe vegan would be safer and one would be less likely to get mystery meat in their meal. ~ P_T ~ Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hand of time. -Voltaire, philosopher (1694-1778) ~~~~*~~~*~~~~*~~~*~~~~*~~~*~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> Sant & Brown <santbrown Re: McDonald's Lawsuit Reminds me of the flight I was on in November. My husband and I had both requested vegetarian meals - ovo lacto. When our trays arrived we were given omelettes and they smelled a bit funny so we asked. Finding that those pink bits all through it was indeed ham and not veggie ham, we were told we could 'pick them out' ;=) We stayed hungry. best, pat (canada)
Guest guest
Both my dh and I have decided to always fly 'vegan' from now on - much safer on the mystery meat thingie. Hey - I like that! - Vegan Airlines. Sounds so much more positive than its soundalike ;=) Of course, we could always just *be* vegan . . . but it's easier to fail at being a vegan I think than at being a vegetarian ;=) and I'm not too big on failure. Guest guest
Sonds like a very good idea Pat. The more i read about companies that have let vegetarian consumers down (suh as McD's) the more i think you can't trust these big companies. In the summer i travelled from London to Paris on the Eurostar first class (because my partner's sister can get it cheap), and they serve you a meal on the train. I let them know in advance i was a vegetarian and from what i could tell, it was. The thing is, some of the staff acted like i was causing such a problem. Each course of my meal came out later than everyone elses - we were at the front of the carriage and i had to wait til everyone else on the carriage was served first. Meanwhile everyone else was chomping away. Mine was brought out at the end and, although it was quite nice it wasn't even hot. but me being me, i didn't complain. Anyway, thats enough moaning from me, Laura (uk) , Sant & Brown <santbrown@l...> wrote: > Both my dh and I have decided to always fly 'vegan' from now on - much > safer on the mystery meat thingie. Guest guest
Well the usual excuse for not giving a vegetarian meal is You Aren't On Our List. Since you never get to see the list . . . Also, it's a real trick to get the special meal that you asked for. Asking for vegetarian I have been offered kosher, diabetic, fish only, etc etc. Once I was palmed off with a bunch of grapes and a bun and told that was vegetarian, which of course it was. I've done a lot of flying over the years, and I find the only thing to do is carry your own - just in case ;=) It's no joke being on a fifteen-hour trans-oceanic flight when you're Not On Our List. best, pat -- PAT (In London, Ontario) Email List: townhounds- (townhounds/) Personal Email: SANTBROWN Personal Webpage: http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---------- * " Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace. Guest guest
Yeah, these were the height of gross and bland. Basically they gave everyone else getting a non-vegan meal a box of Cheerios cereal, milk, banana, bagel and cream cheese. Me they gave a cup of luke-warm water, a packet of instant grits (by the company that makes cream of wheat), a banana, a bagel with peanut butter. Now the bagel with banana and PB was enough really, but I had to try those grits to see if I had been missing anything all these years. Bleh. I bet grits made by your mother would be much better. ~ P_T ~ In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. I'm a *very* successfull vegetarian! *grin* that's a point, but you could just try to use/eat vegan options when they are avilable to you rather than being a devoted vegan if you don't think you could do that. Away from home is a different matter - although again I prefer to avoid eggs, which avoidance started eons ago when I mistakenly ate an eggy thing in the topics (let's not revisit *that* error!) ;=) And this year I have banned butter because it is more tempting than margarine to me personally and I am trying to shed a few pounds. I think we'd be okay avoiding dairy and eggs in our lives, except as I say for things not easily controlled, but to be a vegan is more than that - So I guess for now I'm working towards being an ovo-avoiding lacto-avoiding ovo-lacto vegetarian ;=) However, I'm not trying to coin a new category here! ;=) best, pat PAT (In London, Ontario) Email List: townhounds- (townhounds/) Personal Email: SANTBROWN Personal Webpage: http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---------- * " Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace. I have so many things (housework, patience...) that I am not very good at that it is pretty nice to have something like vegetarianism to be pretty good at! -dawn
