I do, however, use it as a carrier oil for aromatherapy/massage. (Generally aromatherapy carrier oils are higher quality than food grade oils of the same type.) Here's what some of my references say about grapeseed oil: From Nature's Gift (http://www.naturesgift.com/armoatherapycar_ord.htm#Grapeseed) Grapeseed Oil Vitis vinifera Contains: vitamins, minerals, protein, linoleic acid. Cholesterol free Uses: all skin types, odorless, penetrating. very light oil. Slightly astringent, tightens and tones the skin. Does not aggravate acne. Use full strength. From Aromaweb (http://www.aromaweb.com/essentialoils/carrieroils.asp) Grapeseed Botanical Name: Vitus vinifera Aroma: Light, slightly sweet with a hint of a nutty aroma. Texture: Thin but leaves a glossy film on the skin. Color: Virtually clear, has an almost unnoticeable tinge of yellow/green. Notes: Unlike most other carrier oils, grapeseed oil is solvent extracted and may have trace amounts of chemical solvent remaining. I have heard mixed reports on the shelf-life of grapeseed (some have said it goes rancid rather fast). I usually go through a bottle of grapeseed once each six months and have not discovered any problems with rancidity when stored in an amber bottle in a cool dark area I think my main concern would be the solvent extraction, as I don't think I'd want to be ingesting the trace amounts that might be left behind. Grapeseed oil is slightly astringent, and that would make me a bit wary about using it in cooking as well, though I'm not sure I could explain exactly why - something about the thought of drinking facial skin toner just doesn't sit well with me! I'd be interested in hearing other information if anyone has some. -- Sherri " The mark of an educated mind is the ability to entertain an idea without accepting it " ~ Aristotle
Guest guest
Next to Olive oil, Grapeseed oil is wonderful for cooking. It holds up better than Olive oil at higher temperatures, and leaves no taste at all. We use it many times for cooking, it is full of things that are good for us also, just like Olive oil. In Calgary, at least, it is the same price as Olive Oil also. Cheers, Leslie of the north in Calgary, Alberta, Canada We are all part of the tapestry of life. Guest guest
Sounds good to me - I love olive oil, but I take the point about the over-heating. Shall try out grapeseed oil - and check that website.
