Most of your reply was so witty I cannot let myself

get miffed at the rest.

I agree about the lawyers. Twice I've had to hire an

attorney...Both times they made me so sick by what

they wanted to twist into thier own profits. I was

unfortunate enough to watch my Dad die when I was 21

of a massive heartattack. We were together doing a

little work on his house when - boom - dead. My

attorney actually wanted me to lie and say that I saw

him fall from a ladder, which led to the heartattack,

which ended his life. Why? Because he wanted *us* to

collect accidental life insurance. Ugh. I told him

to go to hell and walked out.

Unfortunately teenagers aren't married when they get

pregnant and most stay unmarried and alone through

thier births. Rather than be alone, in a hospital

room with analgesics and anesthesia coursing through

thier viens, drugging thier infants, they have people

like me, doulas, to help guide them through. Position

changes, accupressure, massage, kind words, etc. go a

long way - believe me. And no, I'm not upset at all

about helping women acheive optimum birth

experiences...It is my number one passion in life. I

live and breath childbirth. And yes, Karma has been

kind. My husband and I had the most amazing birth

experience here at home. Just looking into his eyes

took my pains away...And in the end, was a 10 lb baby

girl. A very healthy, happy and active baby girl.

That's all the payment I could ever ask for. Indeed

an amazing blessing.

Middle class guilt? No way. We're barely middle

class. We're a one income family, and the only income

is a teacher's salary. I have no guilt. My husband

has a degree (that he can actually use) and this is

our life. We only have one car and are as frugal as

we possibly can be. That's why I can afford to go to

school - to pursue my dream, of allowing women to

birth where and with whom they choose. The poorest

woman in my homeschool group is a mother of four whose

husband is never around and makes next to nothing.

They get by. She loves her life - why? Because she's

not a victim. She's much more conservative than I am.

Warmly,

Allison
