Guest guest
You ducked the question. What does she mean by " conservative " ? What do you mean? How do you know? By your post, I'd have to conclude she thinks a conservative is someone so politically uninformed that she equates a member of the Democratic political party with a member of the Communist party, which makes one wonder why they bother having both. Unexamined terms and received wisdom, alas. On Thursday, January 23, 2003, at 04:55 PM, (AT) (DOT) com wrote: > Those are her words...She feels all Democrats are > Communists. I don't. Guest guest
No, I thought I answered it. She states she is conservative. She thinks I'm a liberal. Her words. I consider myself conservative because I stick to the principles placed by my Founding Fathers. I enjoy freedom and detest Government control...On all levels. I don't believe in victims. I'm a 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' type of person. I believe in humans helping humans and humans helping themselves...I don't however, believe in Government in all of its omnipotent glory helping us out...Regulating our every move. I don't believe in a quick fix and feel that change takes place gradually. She feels this way and then some. But, what the hell do I know? Warmly, Allison --- The Stewarts <stews9 wrote: > You ducked the question. > > What does she mean by " conservative " ? What about that Patriot's Act? It trashes our constitution in ways that make me absolutely furious. I nearly died more than once in Vietnam defending that constitution. How do you think it makes me feel when some joker from Misouri pretends it's unimportant? I want government officials who can work within the constitution and not try to subvert it at every turn to expediate their job. >>I don't believe in victims.<< Can you define " victim? " We might agree, but I'm not sure yet. >>I'm a 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' type of person.<< Me too!! As a white man caught in the middle of affirmative action, I've done very well. And, my bootstraps are wide and long. Oh, did I mention that I still support affirmative action because not everybody has the emotional, physical, and people resources that I've had behind me? >>I believe in humans helping humans and humans helping themselves...<< I think we agree here!! I also have a long history of volunteering to help others. However, I draw the line when a person refuses to help themselves. >>I don't however, believe in Government in all of its omnipotent glory helping us out...Regulating our every move.<< Me neither!! I hate this stuff with a growing passion in the last few years! I hate it when I have to register my car, pay taxes for a program I don't approve of, fill out my income tax forms, and I especially hate the government telling me what kind of sex is okay in my bedroom. Oh, I forgot to mention that I also hate the government telling my sister how she ought to exercise and manage her body and reproductive rights when it ought to be a decision for her and her doctor to make. >>I don't believe in a quick fix and feel that change takes place gradually.<< I know from my own life that there are no " quick fixes. " And, you're very right about the government seeking only the quick ones. If only the congress and senate would take their time to figure out what really needs to be done and then do only that. I hate all those pressure groups--whether on the right or the left. They seldom are interested in anything but themselves and some special interest which is probably counterproductive to what's good for the people. Huh, looking back over my comments, maybe I'm more conservative than I thought. Thanks, Allison. I might be agreeing with you more often now that we have so much in common. dave
Guest guest
I don't agree with anything the Government makes me do or follow. I disagree with taxes - all taxes. A dear friend of mine has copyrighted himself. He has no social security, no drivers license, etc. Luckily Texas is a Republic and he can get away with much of this. I've had a long day and am very tired so I'm not going to go into it this evening but we'll chat about this tomorrow. Now, as I've said before, socially I'm a bit conservative so there are issues that I'm a little sensitive about. But, as a true Libertarian, I feel the Government has no say about what we can do with our bodies, our thoughts, our sexual preferences, our recreational drugs, our money, OUR LIVES. All the fun things are illegal...What's up with that? If I want deviant sex and lots of drugs then by all means, it's my choice. I'll give you my definition of a victim tomorrow too. I had three glasses of wine with supper and am feeling a bit lazy;) Warmly, Allison --- daveo <daveo wrote: > *****Allison wrote..... > > >>...[i'm] conservative because I stick to the > principles placed by my > Founding Fathers.
