Guest guest
Whenever simple facts present too big an obstacle to rationally overcome, it's a much easier strategy to focus your attack on the speaker. Call them names. Ridicule them. Dismiss them as stupid. Discredit then further with personal insults. Accuse them od anything convenient. Challenge their sentence structure. Play word games that have no real meaning to what was said. Done properly, this distracts their readers from your inability to respond with appropriate counter points, and above all, makes it appear that you " know something they don't. " Over the past week or so, someone calling themselves, " The Stewarts, " made a number of claims about how the US govt is " this thing " or " that thing. " Mostly, I agreeed. In the attached email, I didn't agree, and I challenged a couple of these prior assertions more politely as just " talking trash. " If that's not the case, then put your facts where your " fast talking mouth is. Guest guest
I appreciate your post, daveo. I also want to know what gives this entity the right to judge us all - either to assume we are with him/her/them or against, to assume we are all without intellect, to assume we are all without feelings, to assume we are all just sitting around in our homes waiting to hear what amounts to recycled undergraduate/adolescent nonsense. A few new members could be most confused. It might be confusing to have posts addressed specifically to Patchouli or PT or Feral Troll (which of course *can* be commented on by anyone else - I'm not denying that) replied to by The Stewarts as if that designation were a fourth incarnation of PT. The rest of us who have been on the list more than, say, two days *know* that these unsigned messages come from someone who seems hell-bent to destroy whatever good feeling still exists here. Sadly, attacks at certain people have meant that they have felt obliged to defend themselves - and yes, a little feral fur has flown. As for me, I'm not confused. But I do know that PT is proud of this list, that she enjoys the kind of debate that has evolved, that she is trying to feed in (lovely word that) recipes to keep members happy and well fed despite it all. Me, I've kinda lost my appetitie ;=) I shall be looking for another list too - one where I don't have to have sewage across my kitchen floor everytime I open my email. Those of you sitting with kids in your laps might well wonder at the wholesomeness of such frank and free 'democratic' debate indeed! So thank you all for chatting with me - I have enjoyed (most of) your posts - and in a different situation I would have hoped to have made some good friends ;=) And thank you, PT, for the original invitation. I wish you well with your group. It is well established now and should prove to be very popular. best, pat sant > I'm baffled by what I read from " The Stewarts.
