Definitely not for everybody in the group.] The New York Times January 31, 2003 A War Crime or an Act of War? By STEPHEN C. PELLETIERE MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - It was no surprise that President Bush, lacking smoking-gun evidence of Iraq's weapons programs, used his State of the Union address to re-emphasize the moral case for an invasion: " The dictator who is assembling the world's most dangerous weapons has already used them on whole villages, leaving thousands of his own citizens dead, blind or disfigured. " [is what we've heard the whole and complete story? Is it Saddam's war crimes, oil, or " something else " entirely...?] The entire article is here: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/31/opinion/31PELL.html?ei=1 & en=97b6c3c76ea6ff e5 & ex=1045030380 & pagewanted=print & position=top [it causes me to wonder...] DaveO

Guest guest
That is a very interresting article, thank you daveo. I would think that if the Bush administration had given any thought to the other countries being deprived of Iraq's river access that he would've mentioned that at some point. it is probably not as compelling a reason for war as the genocide argument, but it might convince people who were otherwise against it. My guess is that Bush has no plans to pursue the " peace pipeline " because that would cost a lot of money. But high cost hasn't stopped him from all his tax break plans, has it? , " daveo " <daveo@m...> wrote: > > [FYI re: Iraq, oil, and a war... Guest guest
While many articles like this have crossed my desk, most of minimal interest to this group, I only posted a few related to imminent war. In the bigger picture, the recent move on Afghanistan after 911 and other nearby countries has been planned for decades and well documented in the mainstream press albeit usually buried far from the front page. I believe the " peace pipeline " is a done deal!! If the Arab States don't pay for it, we unfortunately will as one of the thousands of federal off-budget items!! Where do you think the " big wigs " at Enron got all of their ideas for doing the kind of creative accounting that got them into so much trouble? Guest guest
lol you're probably right.. I bet Dubbya plans on announcing the peace pipeline as if it were his idea after he takes over Iraq, since most people probably haven't heard of it. , " daveo " <daveo@m...> wrote: > > While many articles like this have crossed my desk, most of minimal interest > to this group, I only posted a few related to imminent war. Guest guest
Very interesting...I posted this NYT item two days ago. This morning, the story shows up as a CNN feature from Lester Holt to be aired later today. DaveO daveo [daveo] [FYI re: Iraq, oil, and a war... Guest guest
I just wonder what made Collin Powell...Mr. Diplomat...To turn around and be 100% supportive of the war. I'm definitely not pro war with Iraq. We can sit around and point fingers and assume all we want. Either way, it's a waste of time and money. However, I am very suspicious of what the slanted media (such as the New York Times or CNN) covers. This is very liberal media and everything they cover is extremely (ridiculously) biased. Guest guest
Regardless of the left-right issue, I'm hopeful to avoid this war at all reasonable costs. You're right on that Mr. Powell certainly is a hard man to read! Guest guest
don't blame mr. powell. he's just like mr. bush, and he's doing what he's told to do. blame the socialist leaders in venezuela for being so arrogant as to assume they should have rights in their country, and no longer be subject to the desires of american oil corporations. if it wasnt for venezuela dropping it's oil production radically in favour of raising the living standards of its people (to, say, dare i dream, half the living standards we take for granted here), there would be no war in iraq. im assuming soon enough, there will be a military coup or assassination, and those evil democratic venezuelans will have a good ole puppet dictator to ensure their freedoms will be taken care of vis a vis salvador allende/ augosto pinochet/ chile/ united fruit/ a la CIA assisted assasination. -k- not that other countries arent just as bad. ===== Where is this beauty? Guest guest
Yes, I am too. If you're interested, I can forward you some great stuff Ron Paul has written concerning the war. As we all know, he is extremely conservative and very much AGAINST the war. Guest guest
I'm happy to see the info you describe. As I've said before, the issue for me is not left or right but the protection of " rights " of all citizens, and sadly, both political wings have done their fair share of subverting those rights. Reading widely on both sides IMHO provides a more focused image of what's really happening in that " political fog of war. " DaveO Allison Nations [allyanne2001] Yes, I am too.
