Hello all

I've been trying to get a better handle on intaking the right amount

of fats vs the very evil saturated ones. I've done a little googling,

but found some of the info to be conflicting and not exactly what I

was looking for. There are many informed people on this group and

felt that surely a couple of you would have some reliable info/links.

1. The monounsaturated fats like in extra virgin olive oil and canola

are the best, right?

2. I know that there are many different kinds of nuts and seeds that

are good in that they provide a good source of healthy oil. Which

oils and nuts are the best? I was hoping to find a url w/ a chart

listing a variety of nuts and seeds describing their ratio of

saturated, poly & mono.

TIA for any input or site suggestions!

karen :)

1. the absolute best fat is actually omega-3s, but yes, after that is

mono. poly isn't horrible though. (technically omega 3 is a type of

poly.) Canola has the lowest saturated fat, although some people are

concerned it's made from toxic rapeseed, i'm not convinced. the next

lowest in saturated fat is olive oil. Plant fat is pretty much

always healthier than animal fat. (fat is after all where toxins

accumulate in animals- so the toxins in livestock feed get more

concentrated when livestock eat them). toxic substances (such as

antibiotics) can also end up in milk / eggs.

> 2. walnuts have some omega 3's, but i don't know how much saturated

fat. i think almonds and cashews are both healthier than peanuts.

you can usually get almond butter / soy butter in natural foods

stores / Whole Foods Market, to substitute peanut butter.

hope this helps, i'm sure someone else knows something i don't.
