Guest guest
Hello everyone, I know I am new to this group, but I can't just sit by and read all the post about what defines a vegetarian and what companies we should avoid because of the products they make. In my opinion there are degrees of being a vegetarian. There is a passive vegetarian ones who most of their food consumption is plant product in nature. Then there are the Active vegetarians who try with in the confines of this world to consume nothing that was made with any part of animal products. This is just my opinion and it can be wrong, but debating what makes you a vegtetarian is not effective use of time in this group. The group name says it is vegetarian. On to the next thing ( this one becomes a little personal so I apologize in advance before) Who do I boycott for the near death of my father? Is the steel company who made the nail spike or the radicl enviromentalist who hammered the spike in a tree to kill a person who was harvesting the tree. The tree harvester was cutting a tree down because the enviromentalist was suing the federal government for allowing timber sales. Do you know how much paper is used to sue the federal government? I don't but assume it is a lot. It bothers me that people take on causes because of the atrocities done to people they has seen on the so call media (who never gives you the whole truth) Again I apoligize for any I have offended. Came to this group looking for recipes that were vegetarian in nature. In the last three digest I have receive there has been maybe 4 recipes out 75 posts. I think I will get off my soap box now. Guest guest
Hi, Sheila, Even as a participant in some of the stuff that galls you, I can't say I'm fully in agreement with some of the activities that occur in this group. While I joined for community rather than recipes, I certainly understand your upset. We agree that " degrees of being a vegetarian " exist all around us. Without debate on such veggie issues, how do we explore our " vegginess " in the larger veggie community? One thing about recent debates that bothers me is that they get so easily out of control. Speaking only for myself, I asked simple questions and got lengthy responses that often failed to respond to the specific question. I saw no productive dialogue in that. Boycotts are " hot button " issues for many people, both pro and con. I understand how these focused actions assuage feelings of helplessness in a world where more and more people suffer the angst it brings. I'm happy there's a forum for those so inclined to test the waters of their intended boycott. As a digest member, would having clearer subjects on each post help you? The idea surfaced over the past 4-6 weeks and several members felt it was " censorship " of some form or another. I disagreed. What about you? Have you checked Groups for other veggie recipe groups? I'm a member of several where 10-30+ recipes arrive per day. If you'd like links, I'd be happy to post them. Guest guest
There are a bunch of wonderful recipes in our files. Go look. I try to only post one or two new recipes a day, and we are also a vegetarian discussion list as well as a place to share recipes. 4 recipes out of 75 posts is not bad, IMO and I think you slightly exaggerate b/c I am the one putting them into the files and I know lately I have been busy (thanks to all who have recently shared). Like I said before, no one list can meet the needs of everyone. If all you desire is recipe lists, there are many out there which do not chatter or discuss anything, and only allow folks to send recipes. I started this place out to be a haven for people who enjoy both and I intend for it to continue as such. ~ PT ~ It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues. ~ Abraham Lincoln ~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> , " Sheila <anut@c...> " < anut@c...> wrote: > Again I apoligize for any I have offended. Guest guest
I commend you PT. I have another group that is just recipes, and it is very quiet & impersonal. I enjoy reading them when I get them, but it is also nice to get to know the members of the group! Guest guest
Thank you for your kind words, Pixx. I am also a member of several nice recipe-only lists that I enjoy. I figured there might also be a need for those of us who like to chatter amidst our recipe sharing. This group must have tapped into some need since we have steadily grown since it began last September. I have learned a lot from the exchanges. Cooking tips, recipes, global concerns, politics, religious practices, different styles of vegetarian eating and ethical reasons..... the list goes on. I look forward to more. ~ PT ~ Reading is seeing by proxy. -Herbert Spencer, philosopher (1820-1903) ~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> , " Pixx " <lists@p...> wrote: > I commend you PT.
