That is very kind of you to say. I feel much

the same about this list since I don't know

many RL vegetarians either. It is nice to have a

place to be able to ask questions and get some

answers from others who are informed.

I hope you continue to be helped here and find

your membership useful. :)

Hello, Rick. Welcome to the group and congratulations on your decision to go

vegetarian. I started as a lacto-vegetarian 5 years old. I have been a

strict vegetarian (vegan) now for 2 years and it had been the most

fulfilling thing I have ever done. Not only am I healthier, but I also feel

as though I am making a difference.

Keep up the good work!

Hello everyone,my name is Rick. I'd like first of all to thank the moderator

for letting me join this group. I've been a vegeterian now for about four

months and I feel great. It wasn't easy at first but it's becoming easier

everyday. For example there are many tasty veggie burgers on the market

that I love. The more I eat them the more I don't crave meat. In fact I

don't crave meat at all anymore. I think I lost my craving for meat about a

month into my going vegeterian. I'm a big fan of MorningStar Farm veggie

products. Fanstastic!

I've been pondering vegeterianism ever since high school. I'm 30 now.

It's only been since about 1998 that I really started to think heavily about

going veggie. Up until about four months ago I was on and off vegeterianism

going through half hearted phases. I was saying how much I respect

vegeterians yet biting into a chicken sandwich or some other meat at the

same time. I began to realize how phony I was and that I really needed to

walk the talk, so to speak. So as of about four months ago I began to take

that walk and I just keep on walking!

The difficulties I have now though are not craving for meat but questions

I get from people I work with that are meat eaters and other meat eaters I

come across on a daily basis. I think that I'm armed with plenty of

information to justify my vegetarianism. But the thing is I don't get

preachy about it. Co workers and relatives can eat their meat in front of

me. Though I disagree with their diet choice i'm not the type of vegeterian

who will walk out of the room or something. I don't lecture but if someone

asks me about my veggie diet I will gladly tell them my reasons why in as

nice a way as possible. But I think for the most part friends relatives

and others repect my diet choice.

I classify myself as a lacto-ovo vegeterian, one who still has dairy

products and eggs. But the eggs I cook up are the eggs that come from

vegeterian fed hens. And I only eat eggs about twice a week. Of course some

veggie burgers are made with egg and dairy products. Also I still wear some

clothing made from animals. So therefore I'm certainly not a vegan. But

other than that all meats including fish are no longer part of my diet.

I look foward to making friends and sharing ideas, stories and recipes

with others here at the FeralVegetarian group. Thanks.

Rick

You're welcome, Melody. And yes, it will be a long time before your heart

heals. In fact, my Priscilla has been gone three and a half years, I have

new kitties now whom I love, but my heart will never totally heal from

Priscilla's death and loss.

Don't try to rush your grief. Let it happen. Go into it, as going into the

wind, and it will be much better than if you try to run from it. I speak

from sad experience.

I want to thank everyone who responded to my questions about becoming a

vegetarian.

I've bookmarked several web sites, and read everything you guys sent me. I

know that I will continue to be almost a vegetarian, whatever the one is called

that does use dairy products including eggs. One reason, I won't totally

convert is because I know some of the substitutions for dairy, are a lot more

expensive. I am on a fixed income, and although I do eat healthy, there are

some things are are too pricey for me. I do plan to get a couple of the

cookbooks that were recommend, and try my hand at more vegetarian recipes.

Again, thank you. I will stay with this group, and learn lots more I am sure.

LOL I just googled it and found it is called (wait for it) _DR. NEAL BARNARD'S

PROGRAM

FOR REVERSING DIABETES_ (wouldn't ya know) and it has recipes by Bryanna Clark

Brogan.

Have a quick look on http://www.bryannaclarkgrogan.com/page/page/4202244.htm

and http://www.nealbarnard.org/diabetes_book.htm etc. etc. etc.

Worth a thought? Good luck! :)

Hey Bonnie -

That would be lacto/ovo vegetarian (lacto = milk / ovo = egg)

If you ever want to try rice milk, it's quite inexpensive to make:)

Welcome:)

Gayle,

I met T. Colin Campbell this past summer, while at a family retreat in NY

state. He was our featured speaker.

He is very approachable.

I'm thinking that if you wanted to contact him, he would be happy to speak

with you if he was around.

Just a thought.

Whoa! Your family has retreats, featuring speakers

like Dr. Campbell? Is there any way I can become a

long-lost cousin or something? <g>

Liz,

We have a peace and healing center on 270 acres in the Finger Lakes region

of Western NY state. It's about 1 1/2 hrs. south east of Rochester.

Here is the web site: _www.peaceweavers.com_ (http://www.peaceweavers.com)

So, check it out.

We have a 5 acre spring fed lake, antique apple orchard. Between now and

the end of the summer, cleansing retreats, peace retreats, the Natural Building

Colloquium East, and a family gathering.

We have had Arun Ghandi come to speak as well.

Dear Pat,

My heart goes out to you, so sorry for your loss! We lost our little

Chihuahua over 8 years ago and it still hurts to think of him, he was

such a big part of our lives. I am sure your little girl had a very

good life and that is a memory that will give you much peace. God

Bless!

Thank you for the welcome. My name is Peggy and I live in NE TX. My husband

and I have just recently gone vegetarian , well my husband as I have been

mainly for about 6 months. I usually don't do much crockpot cooking but

thought it would be nice for the busy days and the days we have pot luck

after church. I will post recipies as I make them.
