When I traveled Scotland and England last year I was impressed by the vegetarian (not vegan) food selections. I traveled by budget so ate mainly at cafes and stores. McDs and Burger King both offer veg bugers. BK has a spicey delux bean burger plus a garden style burger. McD has a vegetable and carrot and pea pattie. They are good but expensive. The value meal was almost 5 pounds which is about $8. They call it a large coke but it is equivelant to a childs soda here in the states. My daughter loved the fries. I think she needed comfort food from home. I loved the spinach and cheese pasteries made with whole wheat flour. Those were from neighborhood bakeries. Cafes offer cheap bites but they are a cross between school food and hospital food. I stopped in there for tea and soup with bread. The friend I traveled some with loved indian food. Many veg varieties there. Kiosks offer those triangle homemade style sandwiches. I actually started to like the cheese and braxton pickles or whatever they are called. Tomatoe and american cheese on white bread seems to be a hit there but I didnt like it.
Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to the list and have been lurking, but I had to say something on this subject. I was in Ireland last year and I thoroughly enjoyed the Veggie/pea/carrot burger from McD's that you referred to. I emailed McD's when I got home and asked them why they don't have them here! (If they did, I'd never eat anywhere else again....lol) I was told that since there is no market, they don't feel the need. I think that is total hogwash myself. I have tried to find others who would be interested in sending a petition to McD's, but so far, no luck doing that. Anyone on this list interested?? Guest guest
Hello, From one lurker to another, I would be very excited to start a list and get some vegetarian food at fast food restaurants. Guest guest
Hello again, Sorry about that last message, there was an accident with the buttons. As i was saying, i am a college student and it is very hard for me to find vegetarian food late at night. I usually have to go to the grocery store to get anything that even resembles edible. If McD's or other fast food restaurants had something more veggie-friendly then i think they could do alot of business. We should definitely start a petition or letter campaign. Guest guest
Hi, I never heard that McD's had anything other than meat hamburgers. I still go there often, I have four children, 3 of the 4 are meat eaters. My husband & I often take our own sandwiches in, but recently found out the restaurant does not like us to do that due to liability if one was to choke on any food at their restaurant! So, I would like to be included on your petition for the meatless burger!! Guest guest
I'm definitely interested. My hubby and kids are meat eaters, and I'm tired of ordering a hamburger bun with pickles and a slice of tomato (and paying full price for it). I'd love it if McD's started offering vegetarian choices. > > Christopher James [XClicheX] > Tuesday, October 31, 2000 2:07 PM > > Re: RE: UK veg > > > Hello again, > Sorry about that last message, there was an accident with the > buttons. The idea will disperse in time. Now, when you order a veggie burger at BK or McD, you get a cheese sandwich. Good enough in a crunch. I do that occasionally, if I can't find ANYTHING else and I want to wear my 2 yr old out in McDs play area. Jo
