Guest guest
Hiya, Very good point Em, I am living in wisconsin and we can get cuts of meat at under a $1.00! The problem is as you said that the soy is the good stuff. They know as long as there are people buying it for the reasons many of us do they CAN and WILL charge that price because they know we will pay for it.lets face it how long will you not eat soy to try and drive the prices down? Also even if we did do you really think it would help?Proubly not...and they know it! SAd but the truth...A now .. Very Depressed Niccii >TalliDehl .. That brings me to my final point: Why are vegetarian >items so expensive?! We all know it's cheaper to raise vegetables than >animals (take it from me, I'm originally from Wisconsin, now in Iowa), so >why >do we stand for it? I spend $3.63 on a package of four Morningstar veggie >corn dogs (yum) and my sister buys a package of regular corn dogs for a >couple bucks. I have a big problem with this. If McDonald's uses soy >because >it is cheaper than meat, why are grocery stores charging us more for the >cheaper product? >Soy is great stuff. _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
It's not just soy things, though. For instance, at Wendy's, a combo meal with a burger is about $3.20 or so. A veggie pita combo is $4.99. The burger combo has meat (of course), and the veggie pita is stuffed with shredded lettuce, red cabbage, and onion. My husband is works in the computer dept of a food distributing company, and he's shown me their online catalog. The prices of lettuce, cabbage, etc., is *far* cheaper than hamburger meat. I've never understood Wendy's rationale for charging so much more for something that cost them only pennies. Hm. Oh well. > > Niccii Panos [N1kolleta] > Thursday, November 02, 2000 2:47 PM > > Re: Digest # 310, EM > > > Hiya, > Very good point Em, I am living in wisconsin and we can get cuts > of meat at > under a $1.00! Guest guest
HI, The price of purchasing the meat may be higher, but it is frozen, so there is no spoilage to figure into the cost. The items in the veggie pita all spoil and that has to be added into the price. If more people ate the fresh foods there would be less spoilage and the price would come down. Guest guest
Well that makes sense. Thanks. (And that might explain why the veggies in the pita are sometimes so sad and wilted looking.) traceycaldwell [traceycaldwell]Sunday, November 05, 2000 2:54 AM Subject: Re: Digest # 310, EM HI, The price of purchasing the meat may be higher, but it is frozen, so there is no spoilage to figure into the cost.
