Guest guest
I just read a post in another egroup that stated that McDonalds french fries are made using small amounts of beef. Can anyone confirm this? I just ate some fries last night. Gross!!! I thought that was the only thing at McDonalds that was safe for a vegetarian to eat, besides the salads, which taste like they are laced with formaldehyde! LOL ~LISA You don't stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stopped laughing

Guest guest
Yes, I heard about this, on a email i received from Asimba.com. Apparently, an Indian lawyer in Seattle is suing McD's, for "falsely" advertising that they fry their fries in vegetable oil. McD's says that they have never claimed to fry with vegetable oil *only*, and that customers shouldn't go in to McDs expecting to find vegetarian fare. They fully admit to lacing their vegetable oil with "trace amounts" of beef fat, to "enhance" flavor. Ick! - AFotoGirl Saturday, May 05, 2001 8:46 AM Question Regarding McDonalds Fries I just read a post in another egroup that stated that McDonalds french fries are made using small amounts of beef. Guest guest
The fries are cooked in 100% vegetable oil. But if you look at the ingredients listing - go to www.mcdonalds.com and look around to find it. " Natural Flavor " is listed. Apparently, it is beef flavoring/fat that is used on the potatoes when the french fries are made. They are shipped frozen to the stores for frying. Though McDonalds never claimed they were vegetarian, they did make a point to say they are fried in vegetable oil - separately from the chicken nuggets, etc. I do believe they were hiding the fact of what " natural flavor " consisted of - whether that's worth several million dollars though, I don't know. , AFotoGirl@a... wrote: > I just read a post in another egroup that stated that McDonalds french fries > are made using small amounts of beef. Can anyone confirm this? I wrote to McD's customer service. Here's the reply I got: " Hello Lida: Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's. First, we are truly sorry that you are disappointed with us. We want you to know it is neither our intention nor our practice to withhold information that is important to our customers. We have made complete nutrition and ingredient information available through our in-store brochures, Corporate website and Corporate Customer Satisfaction Department. We do not market our French fries as vegetarian. Further, any customer who contacts McDonald's Corporation to ask if there is beef flavoring in our French fries is told yes. For flavor enhancement, McDonald's French fry suppliers use a very small amount of beef flavor as a natural flavoring during the par-frying process at the potato processing plant. In the restaurant, the French fries are cooked in vegetable oil. It's important to understand that McDonald's voluntarily provides nutrition and ingredient information on its products. Moreover, we follow the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines for labeling. As such, our product labeling is consistent with other U.S. food retailers and packaged goods who provide nutrition and ingredient information. Regardless of our compliance with the FDA labeling laws, we want you to know we regret that you are upset with our company. We hope that you believe that we would never purposely fail to provide our customers with information they want to make food choices in our restaurants. We appreciate the time you took to contact us and we hope we have the privilege of being able to serve you in the future. When I became a vegetarian, I asked wherever I went about the oils used to fry things. I felt confident that McD fries were okay. I never imagine thinking to ask if they contained any animal products - like I would with a soup at other restaurants, for example, if it contained chicken broth. I only eat at McD with my children, but we won't be going anymore because I feel betrayed. I know your restaurant never touted itself as vegetarian, but I do feel you were hiding pertinent information. "
Guest guest
<<<I wrote to McD's customer service. Here's the reply I got:>>> YUCK!!!!!!!!!! I am SO grossed out. I have eaten plenty of McD's fries over the years, thinking that they were animal-free! I even went to their website and checked to make sure that there was no animal products in the fries or in the oil they cook in. That's SOOOOO deceiving. My son, who does eat chicken and seafood use to love the chicken McNuggets, but when I went to McD's website, I found out that the CHICKEN nuggets actually have beef in them. Do they think we're all just idiots?!!! Oh well....those fries weren't any good for me anyway. Easy come....easy go! Thanks for sharing the info with us! BTW - does anyone have any info like that about products that we might think are vegetarian, but really aren't? I'd love to know about other "deceptions" like this. ~LISA You don't stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stopped laughing

Guest guest
I have a plethora of information about corn being "snuck" into foods (we are dealing with a corn allergy) . . . you would be amazed. But nothing on animal products. - AFotoGirl Friday, May 11, 2001 12:06 AM Re: Question Regarding McDonalds Fries <<<I wrote to McD's customer service. Here's the reply I got:>>> YUCK!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
My mother is allergic to corn products & as a senior has a myriad of other problems too, so it's hard for her to find something to eat. Maybe she's getting corn from things she doesn't know about & that's part of the problem. Would you please foward that info. to me, privately if you don't want to do it on list. Thank you !
