Guest guest
Does anyone else buy dried chickpeas? I soaked them according to the directions on the package and they were still hard as little nuggets. Even after three days I noticed no difference. Am I just used to canned chick peas which are softer? How do you soak chick peas properly? Thanks titi _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Guest guest
Re: chick peas Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they soften after you cook them, not after soaking. I rather like to soak them and then cook them but not as long as the directions state, and then put popcorn salt or other seasoning on them and eat them crunchy. But I do cook them a little! Guest guest
Add a teaspoon of baking soda when soaking to make the chickpeas softer. But it will still not become as soft as the canned chickpeas. Soak the chickpeas overnight, that's best. - theresa b Friday, June 22, 2001 6:20 AM soaking chick peas Does anyone else buy dried chickpeas? Guest guest
Hi Titi & all, You must boil the chick peas to soften them. Let them sit over night, then bring to a boil, boil about 1-2 minutes, let sit in hot water until it cools. This should soften them right up!
