Well, then, why should I beeating them, and passing the buck on the dirty work? Guest guest
I'd been thinking about it for abotu 3 years. I was trying to lose weight and I had started doing some yoga. It always seemd to connect in my head. A while later I went to the doctors, I had high blood pressure, cholestorol so I wanted to do something else about it (I disagree with taking medicine for medicine's sake and the thought of being tied to pills every day infuriated me. I don't even liek taking Tylonol, etc.). Sad part is I hate veggies! So I never switched ( thought I'd starve). Then last school year around January/ February I saw a book, You Don't Need Meat. I read it. I realized as my cat walked around the edge of the bed and wanted to play that I would never slaughter my cat or any of the dogs I ever had. The idea was absolutely REPELLENT! So.. I started ... I made it many days but was not totally committed yet. Then after reading the health issues and finding some ideas of what to eat and actually this group I switche dover fully april 18th ( I logged it in my food diary and my blog). Once I started, I lost weight, felt better, and started liking veggies (well some). Now... I'm stuck I love it! JLpurplepassion <thelilacflower wrote: I'm always curious myself. That's awesome, JLyn! I was never a veggie person either, before becoming vegetarian, and in fact for several years after, until I learned to cook more than mac'n'cheese! Guest guest
that is wonderful J Lyn! I applaud your change, and your desire to get healthy! my hubby has a history of high cholesterol and heart probs.. His whole family has weight issues and health problems.. his dad is taking ths that and the other cholesterol lowering medication.. his younger sister and older brother have had kidney stones, his mom has issues as well.. David is healthy, fit, and he just took a home cholesterol screening test the other night and (I was teasing him) he was UNDER the 'desirable " range ... He was thrilled, because he is living proof that diet can make a huge difference! =) we are not big pill takers either. Growing up I would not have imagined I'd have kids that eat the things that mine eat.. I HATED broccoli... spinach, beans, unless they were refried!... we love all that now. And we all will try new things quite easily.. as long as the new food is vegan! Lol =) Jenni On Thursday, September 15, 2005, at 04:32 PM, J Lyn wrote: > I'd been thinking about it for abotu 3 years. Guest guest
What a wonderful testimony, JLyn. I applaud you for actually trying different vegetables. So many people go their whole lives without even trying something. Plus, as we get older our taste buds change. I've heard many people say they don't like veggies because as a kid they were overcooked mush; but when they try something fresh and cooked properly it's like eating something completely new! Growing up I never had asparagus, artichoke, eggplant, mild or hot peppers. When I was 20 and living in Germany, I had asparagus for the first time and fell in love with it! It's just great that you have the desire and the adventuresome spirit! Great job! Denise , J Lyn <poet_atrabilious> wrote: > I'd been thinking about it for abotu 3 years. Guest guest
exactly! over cooked mush. what were all the carol brady's, Shirley Partridge's, and June Cleaer's thinking for gad's sakes!! my mom overcooked every darn thing, and pasta too, ughhh that's the worst. She made potato salad that should have been called mashed potato salad, tee hee. hugs, Chanda <glad she can't work a PC and be reading this> - " organic_homestead " <organic_homestead Friday, September 16, 2005 12:37 PM Re: Why we became vegetarians/vegans > What a wonderful testimony, JLyn.
