Guest guest
From the 1973 Mother Earth News Almanac 2 c buttermilk 1/2 c honey 1/4 c molasses 2 tsp soda 1 tsp salt 1 1/2 c whole-wheat flour 1/2 c wheat germ 1 c white flour 1/4 raisins/currents and/or chocolate chips (all optional) Preheat oven to 400. Mix together the buttermilk, honey, molasses, soda and salt. Then, in another bowl, combine the flours and wheat germ and add that blend to the buttermilk mixture. Stir in the fruit/choc chips, if using and pour the batter into a 9x5x3 loaf pan. Reduce oven temp to 350 and bake bread for one hour. Turn loaf out onto a rack to cool. They suggest to wait one day before slicing and toasting. This recipe can easily be multiplied to make many loaves. Enjoy! Denise
