Its been said that unless its been less than three or four hours since you've last eaten what you're feeling is not true hunger. I'd suggest drinking a lot of water all day long (at least 8 8oz. glasses) which does tend to keep you feeling full. Don't know how you feel about cereal in the a.m., but my favorite breakfast is usually half a banana or a cup of strawberries, a cup of Kashi (or cooked oatmeal....real oatmeal, not the instant stuff), skim milk or rice milk and two T. of ground flax seeds. This seems to stay with me for hours. I've learned that a high fiber breakfast has a lot to do with keeping my weight stable. Kashi is high fiber, as are the flax seeds (which are very good for you). Guest guest
Hi guys, I have a questions.... At night I have a terrible time. I get hungry and just want to nibble on stuff. I am wanting to lose weight but I know that I won't if I am nibbling in the nights.... but I am hungry. I got up today and ended up eating a slice of veggie pizza and a glass of soy milk and then went to my dad's and had him put one of my garden veggie burger and Smart Franks on the grill and I ate each of them with a bun a small bit of fritoes and some vegetarian baked beans very little and some potato salad and 1 half of a deviled egg. When I came home later on I ate 2 more slices of the small veggie pizza and another glass of soy milk and an orange and some popcorn.... I am still hungry... I don't know what is going on with me.... I guess this is new and well, I just don't know what to do???? Any ideas? Guest guest
You have a lot of carbs here. They burn fast, causing your sugar to drop, thus making you feel hungry. Try more foods with whole grains and protein. hth, Julie Hi guys, I have a questions.... At night I have a terrible time. I get hungry and just want to nibble on stuff. Guest guest
Hi, Barb!!! If you are trying to lose weight, you need to be sure you're eating enough! As counterintuitive as it may sound, if you don't eat enough your body may well say " heck with it then, if she's not gonna feed me I better store all my calories just in case! " ... You can go to a site like fitday.com and enter in your foods and approximate amounts, and it will tell you how many calories you're eating, along with breakdowns of protein, carbohydrates and fats. You can go to room42.com and scroll down to the basal metabolism calculator to find an estimate of how many calories you need each day, just to exist. Obviously you need to eat at least that many each day. Good luck, *hugs* Amy , " Barbara " <babsyjean@c...> wrote: > Hi guys, > > I have a questions.... At night I have a terrible time. Guest guest
Hi Amy! Thanks! I will do that. I had another night of munching! I don't like to do that but I am so thankful I haven't went back to meat. I don't feel as sluggish as I did when I was eating meat! I feel better, my food digests better. Thanks again for the info! Guest guest
Snacking and nibbling is fine as long as you choose healthy options. Try a piece of fruit and some cheese, some mixed nuts/trail mix, or whole grain toast with peanut butter. The latest reports say that the best diet is to eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of the large three. And don't forget to drink lots of water, at least 32 oz. Sometimes your body will make you think it's hungry when it's really thirsty. Start reading labels, if you don't already, and keep an eye out for high fructose corn syrup in things, such as breads, even wheat breads. I currently am buying the Peppridge Farm " Natural " brand as it's the only bread I can get without HFCS. Your body is going through changes right now so don't beat yourself up for being hungry. Take care of your urges but be aware of how you take care of them. Soon, your body (and mind) will get used to this change and you may not have the late night snack attacks anymore. Congratulations on becoming vegetarian! I have been vegetarian for over 12 years (maybe even 14, I'm too tired to calculate right now). DOnna on the board has been veg 25 years, I think, and there are some other long-timers here too. Lots of new folks as well, which is always good to see! *welcometoveggielifehugs* Amy
