Guest guest
I do seeds also. I Grind them every morning in a coffee grinder and dump about 2 Tablespoons on my Kashi or my oatmeal. This might help explain the benefits of seeds over oil. The advantage of eating flax seeds over flax oil is that flaxseed is a complete food providing you with the benefits of Omega3, 6 & 9 EFA's, fiber, protein, plant lignans, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Flax oil, expelled from the flax seed, contains the EFA's but not the fiber, protein and plant lignans (an anti-cancer agent). TM
Guest guest
I all! Just wanted to say a quick hello and intro. my self. I am a homeschooling mom of 2 and am now just starting to get into vegetarianism. I've checked out a dozen books or so from the library, and been perusing alot of different websites and reading all I can about it. I keep reading alot bout flax seed and the wonderful benefits of it, I'm wondering what your favorite flax seed/oil is, and if you've ordered it online could you pass along a few of the websites as well? I REALLY appreciate all of the advice I've been reading through the posts and some simple and yummy recipes. That's exactly what I need right now, I'm trying to ease into this transition, and the simpler the better! TIA, Michelle
Guest guest
Hi, Michelle!! Welcome! I haven't bought flaxseed online, but I'm there are folks here who have. My favorite way to get them is just straight whole seeds, then I grind them in a coffee grinder, as much as I need for a week. Once ground, they don't keep very long. I also prefer the whole seed to the oil; I figure the fiber is good, and there's probably something else in there good for me that isn't in the oil... but there are lots of different opnions. In any case, good luck! :-) Browse our files for some great recipes, and just ask if you're looking for something specific! *welcomehugs* Amy

Just to grind as much as you can use in about a weeks time! The coffee grinder thing is a GREAT idea! Once > ground, they don't keep very long. The > coffee grinder thing is a GREAT idea! Just don't use one you're actually using for coffee - anything you grind in that will taste like coffee. You can some really cheap (I have a Proctor Silex that was about $7 that's holding up well) if you need a spare non-coffee one. Just don't do cloves unless you want the plastic lid to become all pitted and hard to see through... (btdt). > Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Guest guest
I was just reading about something called the RAVE diet (kind of like McDougall and Ornish health food plans)... he says everyone should include at least 1 tablespoon of ground flax in their *daily* diet. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Michell! Well, for whole or ground flax seed I like Bob's Red Mill and for oils I like the Spectrum brand. Not sure if you can get those brands where you are.
