Guest guest
OKAY>>> so I really really wanted a dog... really.. have always.. though I wasn't sure about the commitment there.. once the winter hits full force,.. will it all fall on me.. still... a furry companion... who doesn't want love?? and my daughter is a cat person to the t... she loves cats. but I do not do not do not want the apartment to smell like that cat smell... and our apartment will allows pets.. but has a high deposit.. much of it not refundable.. soooo.. anwyay.. David is at work to day, and one of the artists is moving to Australia... she has a one year old cat who is litter box trained, and declawed... a total apartment cat.. but she can't go with them to australia... soooo we are really thinking about adopting her. a furry companion.... hmmm. who doesn't want love???? lol =) happy jenni
Guest guest
Oh my yes, Jenni, do adopt that kitty! Dogs drool, cats rule LOL Teasing, love both. Know what you mean about the smell, cannot stand it so have tried everything to get rid of it. There is less smell with the clumping style cat litter and I use Arm & Hammer cat litter deodorizer too. a little baking soda in the litter was enough with just 2 cats but now I have 6, 4 males (even nutered male cat pee has a strong ammonia smell ). No smell in my house unless I don't clean the box - my friends know to tell me if there's any cat smell ( big help when experimenting with different products to find what works) with one cat you shouldn't have any odor problem and kitty love is soooooo worth the work of scooping litter a few times a day! My Shreck wakes me up by getting in my face and purring, way better than an alarm clock!! peace, Angela who I am is fine, it's just this body that's disabled! Thanks for the tips on cat litter! I think this is something my kiddies need too... they LOVE LOVE LOVE animals, and we've always lived in apartments, so we've put it off... well.. somethings can't be put off forever! plus the responsibility of poop scooping will be good for them! ha..and the feeding and such.. is there anything I need to kown about feeding a cat? is dry cat food okay? are there better ones?? awful ones? =) I feel less prepared than when I was having babies! lol On Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at 12:13 PM, Angela wrote: > Oh my yes, Jenni, do adopt that kitty! > Dogs drool, cats rule LOL Teasing, love both. Guest guest
Jenni, go get that cat! *lol* You will be so happy you did. i remember when i had to move to Hawaii and the quarentine for pets forced me to find a new loving home for my kitties. It was aweful and so sad, but i just knew the 6 months in that prison-like environment would have killed my precious little ones. i was so blessed when some kind people stepped forward and took them in giving them a loving new home. ~ pt ~ We can often do more for other men by trying to correct our own faults than by trying to correct theirs. ~ Francois Fenelon ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , Jenni Billings <jenni@b...> wrote: > anwyay.. Guest guest
Get thee to the library! * grin* . Does daughter have a school library? I always found with kids looking up the 'how to' encourages their " go do " . Her current human should give you all the info you need about feeding, etc. If you decide to make changes in food or litter it should be after she's adjusted to her new home and family.cats, like kids, sometimes have difficulty with change. ( my original 3 were wrecks when we moved from CA to TX, poor babies hid in my closet first week here, slipped out to eat and use litter when all humans were sleeping ) I'd call her vet and ask if they have a hand book about 'cat proofing'. and then the library - the net is super but sometimes books are better, and of course we cat people here in the group ( I've been known to give friends waaaaaaaaay more info/advice than they asked for!!! LOL) peace, Angela ZsaZsa, Sydney, Junior, Mitts, Shrek, and Ghengis too! who I am is fine, it's just this body that's disabled! Guest guest
We get to pick up Brunswick (or Wicky) on Friday... I can't wait. I've been working on the kiddies room (they are helping) to get a better handle on that clutter... I hadn't thought about the quarentine... I'm sure that's why they can't take Wicky.. The funny thing is my hubby was SO against getting a cat, (mostly because of smells I think, which is really funny because he's married to someone with a superior olfactory organ.. meaning, I can smell everything, so I doubt we'll have a problem!.. I always tease him about his inferior nostrils. the kids don't even know about our new addition! =) This feels like Christmas, or my birthday or something! =) I'm actually getting giddy about this.. and you all are sharing it with me! (thanks everyone! hee hee) and thanks for another great quote PT! =) On Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at 01:52 PM, ~ PT ~ wrote: > Jenni, go get that cat! *lol* You will be so happy you did. > i remember when i had to move to Hawaii and the > quarentine for pets forced me to find a new loving > home for my kitties. Guest guest
I feed our cats Purine ONE Salmon & Tuna. Their coats, teeth and eyes are all so healthy, even the vet made a mention. Dry cat food is all you need, although you could get some wet food as a small treat here and there, but not on a regular basis. Best to just to fill the dish when it's empty, cats are pretty good at eating when they are ready. Also, fresh water is a must. A few of my cats drink out of the toilet, the shower (when we get out), or the kitchen sink if I have something soaking. Milk is not necessary, although I let my Pumpkin drink my milk after I've eaten my cereal as a little treat. Vets like to push Science Diet, but I don't really think it's that great of cat food. Why not ask the people you're getting kitty from what they feed it. Cats can be pretty picky and if she/he is suddenly living in a new space with new food she/he may not eat right away. Also, keep the cat indoors for at least a month before letting it venture out (if you are going to), just so it knows where it's new home is. Hope that helps, Denise, who now has seven cats ranging from 8 years to 12 weeks. , Jenni Billings <jenni@b...> wrote: > is there anything I need to kown about feeding a cat? is dry cat food > okay? are there better ones?? awful ones? > > =) > I feel less prepared than when I was having babies! lol
Guest guest
these days in my city you can not let your cat venture out at all. Guest guest
Oh, Jenni!!! Do it!! You will be richly rewarded! And the apartment won't smell as long as you clean the litterbox at least once a day.

When you do get a dog, make sure s/he can't get to the litter.... they're so gross and will probably eat the poop. > is there anything I need to kown about feeding a cat? is dry cat > food okay? are there better ones?? awful ones? Dry is ok, but wet is better. Just went through some awful problems with my two from a lifetime of too much dry vs. wet. The vet says there is no evidence dry is better for the teeth (one of the arguments used for dry only). Use the dry for traveling and/or for treats. The cheap grocery store ones aren't great. Iams, Eukanuba, Nutramax are some goodones. My mom's terminally ill cats do great and live well for a long time on Iams-type. Actually - find out what Wicky's currently eating. Give her that same food, and if you decide you want to give her something different, phase it in gradually.

They have been as much as 22#, but with their recent illnesses dropped a significant amount. As you can see, Jenni - there are differing opinions on the food. My cat ended up with severe constipation (had to be sedated and " cleaned out " from the dry), but you should do what Wicky is used to, and what is convenient for you. I should let you know wet food smells horrible compared to dry! *lol* > Also, fresh water is a must. I trained them away from sinks by always moving them to the bathtub - that way there's no litter tracks up on counters where they are not allowed. > Milk is not necessary, although I let my Pumpkin drink my milk after > I've eaten my cereal as a little treat. If so, definitely keep it in. Another sister of mine has 4 cats,3 of which are siblings to mine. They are declawed in the front only, but still shouldn't go out alone. LOL I know - the chicken cat food is the only meat that comes in here, excepting the occasional peppered salami for DH, and the tuna packets he buys buy immediately takes to the office for lunches. > we do plan to do that.. Guest guest
funny, she is an angel, never any trouble at all, and she is so young at heart, putting up with the kitten and the dog.
