Guest guest
It's Heather Here. Two reasons I became a vegetarian is because of(1) the health benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. I really got sick and tired of reading about how the meat we were eating was the cause for all of the fatal diseases such as cancer etc. I have witnessed so many of my family members being literally being eaten alive by cancer. I watched one of my Uncle's go through something that I would never wish on anyone. I can at least help my chances by CARING about and KNOWING about what I stick into my mouth. I can't say that it isn't a bumpy ride, but I take a lot of pride in telling people that I chose this way because I care about my well being in the future. (2) I have been reading lately about what is done to the animals when they are being prepared for human consummption. I was incredibly shocked. I love animals and to know that people are employees of a place that is built just to slaughter animals really makes my heart cry. So sad. So depressing. So unjust. Guest guest
People have been talking about reasons they are turned off by meat. One thing that really got me was when my friend got back to her apartment in New Orleans a month after they left they found they had minimal damage (thank god!) but their fridge, which was otherwise undisturbed (still sealed, in other words) had maggots INSIDE of it. That only means one thing and it makes me shudder every time I think about it. The other good news was that her fish were still alive. I guess she might have been overfeeding them a bit. ;-) -Craige

Guest guest
That is gross ( the maggots in fridge) That's great that the fish made it through it all. Guest guest
I told that to the family ad they said it was a rumor and refused to believe it, error - Heather Graves Wednesday, October 12, 2005 2:04 PM Re: v egetarian path (Heather) That is gross ( the maggots in fridge) That's great that the fish made it through it all. Guest guest
Was this message for me? I don't understand. My best friend from high school was on the phone with her husband when he had arrived back in New Orleans and opened the fridge. I was standing right there. She turned to me and said, " Oh my god, you aren't going to believe this! " Hardly a rumor, I'd say. Needless to say, they threw away the fridge. Even though they were still so lucky to not have any further damage, they have a baby and feel like it's still unsafe (power lines lying on the sidewalks, smell of trash everywhere, very dirty), so are staying with his brother across the river. If you find this hard to believe, that's fine. It is hard for me to believe that the beautiful city of NoLa no longer has its former beauty, but it's true. -Craige On 10/12/05, PuterWitch <puterwitch wrote: > > I told that to the family ad they said it was a rumor and refused to > believe it, error >
Guest guest
that error at the end was supposed to be grrrrrr, but my spell checker corrected it, LOL. Oh I know, I believe it, but my family will think of any excuse to condone meat. When I talk about the adverse affects they come back with " funny remarks " they just can't here me. Guest guest
Oh, silly spell checker! Haha. I totally misinterpreted your message. Good thing I asked!
